Kenneth Branagh Talks Thor DVD, Deleted Scenes

Kenneth Branagh Talks Thor DVD, Deleted Scenes

Although the film will only hit theaters this weekend, MTV have quizzed director Ken Branagh on what sort of scenes were left out of the theatrical cut that might wind up on the DVD release of the movie..

I really enjoyed Thor, but even those who can';t find much wrong with the movie have to admit that it felt a little on the short side and rushed at the end. This happens to many blockbusters, with studios afraid to take a chance on what they feel is too long a running time. And as a result a lot of great stuff ends up on the cutting room floor. Well, thankfully we will get to witness these scenes when Thor makes it's way to DVD..

"On the DVD you'll see many deleted scenes,

"On the way to this particular cut, in pursuit of what we felt was the perfect balance for this first time out with Thor, we had to not so much sacrifice — because this felt like the right thing to get to, but with certain areas of the story, things like the Asgardian parents, Odin and Frigga, played by the beautiful Rene Russo, there's some beautiful scenes in there that I think people will enjoy."

"And certainly Thor and Loki interacting in different ways that just fill in a little bit of a back story, that was part of our rehearsal and research.I think it's going to be an interesting bunch of material."

"I guess it's got to be 20 minutes worth, I think. It's a significant amount, actually."

Thor hits May 6th. I assume you won't need any encouragement to go see it?:)

@ Sorceror123

Well said! Although for me it's 4.5/5.

I have a feeling those 20 minutes will be more awesomeness. I'm surprised Marvel Studios which obviously had so much confidence in this film generally did not have the confidence to let it run for another 10 minutes or so. However that might have been Paramounts influence.

I would really love to see a longer version with some of those scenes properly integrated with score, etc.

When will it come out on bluray?

If it's only twenty minutes worth, they could of left it in the actual movie?

No one would mind an extra twenty minutes of actual movie time? Many reviews say the movie felt short, this extra footage maybe just what the movie needed?

I think you will probably see Thor on DVD and Bluray about the same time as IM2 this past year, October. And then you can probably count on Cap being one of the big movies released just before Christmas or sometime in early December.

@ RamonSuarez

Not being judgemental, but if you are a Marvel or even comicbook movie fan, I hope you are going to see in theatre as well. These films NEED and DESERVE our (the fans) financial support to ensure success and sequels.

Irrespective though I'm glad you liked it and I agree with the length issue.

@ oscuro

they've only got 4 star because they still ain't 100% faithful to the source.

-heimdall not white
-heimdall & sif are brother & sister
-frost giants should be bigger
-hogun the grim should have moustache
-sif & thor are in a relationship in the comics
-no balder the brave

but still i think thor is a shit hot film & my favorite cbm ever.

Thor is a great movie, if the movie were a little bit longer.....

Hope they release it in a extended version, not only the "deleted scenes" menu. Not likely...

BTW, the scenes he's referring are probably (or sounds like) those from the script (which had a different beginning, with odin talking to frigga about the Odinsleep and Thor talking to Loki before entering Odin's Hall).

@ELgUaSoN - I second your comment. None of these points is relevant to me. Just like I don't care if the rainbow bridge isn't really a rainbow brigde :)

The raibow bridge is a excellent design, Asgard is a great city.....hope they show more in future movies

I've seen Thor, and I spotted a hint at a deleted scene.

SPOLIER (kind of):

At the end you see Fandril holding hands with Kat Dennings' character briefly, suggesting there was at least something cut there. Frigga as well has very little screen time, so as Kenneth confirmed I expected to see more of that on the DVD.

Im sure those deleted scenes would have made the movie better.

It felt short, at least for me, and some other persons that have seen it.

Thor's one of the BEST CBMs thus far that I've seen! Sure it was a tad short due to time/pacing constraints, it was a great ride with just enough slow moments to let you catch your metaphorical breath. I wonder though, if Kenneth would somehow put in a Director's Cut version when the DVD/Blu-Ray comes out with all the "deleted scenes" woven in for a longer story. I can't wait to watch it again... and even more when it comes out on video discs later this year.

what is the actual run time of the movie?
RexDartEskimoSpy
RexDartEskimoSpy - 5/2/2011, 9:02 PM
I haven't seen it yet, but IMDb says Thor is 114 minutes (including at least five minutes of credits I assume) which does sound pretty short to me. Hasn't it been proven that audiences are willing to sit through longer movies these days? Hell, Transfomers 2 was about two and a half hours long, and made a buttload of money despite being utter garbage, and running over three hours didn't hurt Titanic or the LotR movies.

Hopefully Kenneth Branagh rates getting a Director's Cut DVD.
BlackSands
BlackSands - 5/2/2011, 9:07 PM
@RexDartEskimoSpy: I don't think that is accurate... it was more or less 140 minutes to 150 minutes total with credits included AND the after credits scene.... I remember going in at around close to half past 6 pm and coming out of the place at around 9-ish...

Just saw it and came home, and it's Amazing!

4.7/5

0.3's for a bit rushing, which wasn't that bad though.

My question as well. Will they be offered as a "bonus feature" only or will they be able to be incorporated into the feature. Too many dvd's these days only offer them separately as bonus material. I would much rather have them resequenced back into the feature itself.

I remember a dvd release of Terminator 2 that had the option to add the scenes into the film and it was MUCH better with them than without. The scene in the garage where T2 is shut down and they enable his cpu's ability to learn emotions along with the scene where he is trying to smile were fantastic and absolutely should have been left in the film. The newer dvd release removed this option and relegated them to the "deleted scenes" menu of the bonus material. Lame!

They better not screw us DVD collectors over and put everything on Blu Ray. Iron Man 2 2 disc special edition was a bloody ripoff compared to TIH and Iron Man. Good thing I didnt buy the steel book for that, There were like 3 feauturettes:
