This month's issue of Empire has a great in depth piece on their set visit to Kenneth Branagh's Thor, but much of it is stuff we have heard before. Although one paragraph caught my attention. A description of a set piece involving Thor going up against The Destroyer. We also learn that fans will not be hearing Thor's famous battle cry!..
From Empire magazine..
..."Odinson is clad in a blue plad shirt. The scene being filmed is well into the third act, when Thor runs down teh high street, herding the screaming civilians to shelter as The Destroyer, clearly out of government issue vehicles to vandalize, begins to tear up the town. As Thor screams his challenge to the lumbering behemoth, we notice a plummy English accent on his lips but, happily, not a trace of iambic pentameter.
"I say thee nay! We didn't go there" laughs Chris Hemsworth. "The accent thing did have me worried a little at first, but Ken assured me we weren't going down the Old English path. We were never going to try to do it like the comics. He did want to preserve a hint of it though, so he settled on a standard English accent for The Asgardians. Kind of a middle ground. Very formal but definitely not Shakespearean."
So there you go. We knew Thor and The Destroyer would face off at some point, but now we know how and at what point in the movie it happens. As for the dropping of the "I say thee nay"? Well, none really thought they would be using it. Did they?
Be sure to check out this month's issue of Empire for more cast and director interviews.
