Something bothered me in THOR’s dialogue.

Something bothered me in THOR’s dialogue.

We have seen the trailer and something strike me as off in one of the God of Thunder’s litanies.

I do not mean that they have lost that old English “thees" and “thous”, I am ok with that. I am even okay that these Asgardian being can actually speak fluent modern English (though I hope they give a good explanation for that in the movie).

What strikes me as odd is this line of THOR talking angrily with ODIN.

“You are an old man and a fool!”

Nothing wrong with his delivery, it is quite nice in fact, with that passion and defiance. What seems to me as out of place is the word “MAN” (just like the term “sitting duck” sounds out of place in Star Wars : Phantom Menace).

They are gods, or to be even more politically correct they are Æsirs, so why would Thor refer to ODIN as a man or an old man? They should not be referring to themselves as men (I would imagine that they do not see themselves as men) because they are different from men as they are different to frost giants.

I know that the writers might overlook this, and I think most of us also did, or they are just using the term “man” as a broad term for any humanoid being much like that alien Super“man”, but for me that dialogue does not sound so authentic.

Wouldn’t it be better if he said –“ You’re an old god and a fool!”
That would enforce more the difference between them and regular “men”.

Though I do have a way out for them with this one, Thor could use the term “man” as a derogatory term much like we use [female dog] to describe another “man”. Which in a way would give more impact to THOR’s speech and ODIN’s heightened reaction.

Ok, so that’s it. Give your reaction on the same place. VVV

I am WITNESS there’s no small problem that I can’t make BIG.
