Thor: Love and Thunder looks set to follow the comic books by having Jane Foster become the Mighty Thor. While plot details are few and far between, we have been able to figure a few things out thanks to set photos, including the fact that the original Mjolnir somehow re-forms and grants Jane her powers.

It's unclear what this transformation means for the God of Thunder himself moving forward, but going from scientist to superhero resulted in quite a few changes to how Natalie Portman approached the role.

Talking to Vanity Fair, the actress broke down what sounds like an intense workout routine.

"It was really fun. I worked with a trainer, Naomi Pendergast, for, I think it was, four months before shooting, and then obviously all the way through filming. We did a lot of weight training and a lot of protein shakes - heavyweight training that I haven’t ever done before. Of course, I’ve never really aimed to get bulky. It was very physical, so it was a lot of both agility work and also strength work."

As for how undergoing that superhero transformation affected her performance in Thor: Love and Thunder, Portman added: "It definitely helps you get into character, and it’s definitely changed the way I move. You walk differently; you feel different. I mean, it’s so wild to feel strong for the first time in my life."

There are plenty of fans hoping that Jane sticks around as this version of the Mighty Thor, but it's also possible the change will be a one-off. It likely depends where the God of Thunder's story heads in this fourth chapter, because a villain as fearsome as Gorr the God Butcher likely means not everyone is going to make it out of this one alive (something that the whole "God Butcher" thing alludes to).

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released on May 6, 2022!

Wonder if she will wear the helmet for a decent amount of screen time.

Need to check out her Thor book, seems like one of the few replacement heroes, that actually got fans to change their mind on and accept fully, along with Sam Captain America

I was wondering how they got around the mjolnir thing but Im guessing she is a varient who picked up the hammer way back when Thor was depowered.

@Vision85 - my guess is the pieces that are still scattered around that Norway cliff reassemble and find their way to Jane

Have we considered that her Thor might be from the Multiverse?

First Hemsworth with those massive arms, and now Portman working out. We really be getting bulky Thors in this. Nice

If we don’t get a sex scene of her pegging Thor from behind whilst in character, this movie won’t get above an A- from me

"it’s definitely changed the way I move. You walk differently; you feel different. I mean, it’s so wild to feel strong for the first time in my life."

I was a complete couch-potato cliché until I hit thirty and then did intensive weight training and cardio for about 10 months, and this hits home for me. Even though I only got into "pretty good shape", it changed my entire outlook on what my body was capable of being.

I know there are plenty of physically active people on this site, but if I could just give some encouragement to someone who has never taken that step, I can't recommend it enough. You don't have to be in superhero shape or have a personal trainer to make major changes.

@Spock0Clock - great to hear that mate! I myself have been on and off workout for years, and I'm not bad myself considering I was a fat ass back in the day.
But since the surge of the YouTube fitness community in the last couple of years, I discovered how unrealistic these Hollywood fitness routines really are. And it's a shame since they give people a lot of false hope. Getting the average Joe in Superhero shape might take much longer than 6 months of intense training if you want to do it naturally.
