Thor Not Performing As Well As Other Marvel Films!

Thor Not Performing As Well As Other Marvel Films!

While not anything really essential to the film itself, According to NEWSARAMA, they report that THOR is not as successful as its movie companions. Hit the jump to find out more.

I am a little surprised, but I just that this thought would be something interesting to share for those who do not already know, but this is not going to stop me from seeing the film. But, I was reading up on the success of THOR, and I discovered shocking news(well to me) and I saw this, as what "NEWSARAMA" had to say:

"Marvel Studios’ and Paramount’s big-screen 3D epic Thor led the North American box office again this past weekend, with an estimated $34.7 million, bringing its 10-day domestic total to $119.5m.

The figures, while solid enough, are well behind the 10-day totals of other recent Marvel-based films like Iron Man ($177.8m in 2008), Iron Man 2 ($211m in 2010), and even X-Men Origins: Wolverine ($129m in 2009). Add in ticket price inflation and the 3D premium factor, and you can argue the case that Thor is performing significantly below those films. And for the most part you’d be right ... less people have gone to see Thor than any of those other films."

also, I still haven't seen "Thor" yet (too darn expensive) but frankly, I ain't surprised by this. It (at least in America) is WAY too expensive to go to the movies. I mean, seriously, a regular, non-3D, matinée is like $8.50 (at least where I live). A matinée! it's crazy.

@runDTC I know exactly what you mean. It's $10.00 here, and $13 for 3D....horrible!

this is not really surprising.

Iron Man starred Robert Downey Jr, a well respected and extremly well known quality actor. regardless of the character being a 2nd tier character in the comics universe the fact that it had that kind of star power in its lead drew crowds.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine already has that built in fanbase of people who have seen the original X-Men movies and love Hugh Jackman another guy who is established as a box office draw.

Thor while being a 2nd tier character as well did not have the star power in its lead that Iron Man or Wolverine had. the 2 biggest stars were secondary characters. so with that in mind it is understandable that its numbers wouldn't be on the same level as those others.

without question after the Avengers comes out, and Hemsworth has had a few more notable roles the numbers on the sequel will be massive in comparison with the numbers it has now.

8.50 for a movie! i would kill for that price. a regular movie here runs me 12 bucks a ticket. and Thor was even worse. i saw it on IMAX 3D and it cost me 21 bucks a ticket.

took a date and counting tickets, popcorn, drinks and candy about 80 bucks

I made my boyfriend take me to see it and in the tickets along he spent about $40 because we saw it in 3D and IMAX.

We both felt that it was a waste though. Should've just seen the 2D version. The story seemed to be lacking a bit. It had it's cool moments but as someone who didn't know too much about Thor when I went in, I sure as he|| didn't leave the theater with that awe feeling thinking that Thor was such a cool character like I did with Iron Man.

I personally think that it could have been better, but that's my opinion. Obviously a lot of other people felt the same way because otherwise it would made a lot more money. Word of mouth is a very important marketing technique.

Even if it doesn't do that well, Thor will be even more popular after Avengers comes out. Avengers will literally make or break Marvel Studios. It wont bankrupt them but itll drastically change the way they do things which might mean no more crossovers.

For [frick]'s sake, Thor's the third highest grossing film of the year (so far) in the US and Worldwide.

I love how people bitch about ticket prices, makes me think that these are the same kind of morons who download music for free so that the whole music industry is in ruins. I wonder if they'll ruin the movie industry as well by illegal movie downloads. Get out there and support the main reason this site exist!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welp, I saw it twice. I thought it was a great movie. It's tied with the first Iron Man for the best Marvel film.

Thor has spent it's 3rd week at number one in the UK. Not too shabby. In fact it even made main entertainment news here such was its newsworthiness.

Agreed with those who said 3d was a waste. I saw it in 2D first (as nature intended) and then in 3D when I took my nephew. The worst thing I can say about the 3D is I forgot it was even there. It added nothing to the film except the price of the ticket!!

Next week Thor would have surpassed Wolverine's WW box office in what three weeks, without even opening in Japan.
It already surpassed Hulk by a hundred million bucks...
The Iron Man movies are big successes but Thor is doing more than well.

I liked the movie just that the 3D didn't even make a big difference and best to just watch it in 2D. Saves money.

To all you cheep ass peeps who can afford the internet but not $13 to see a movie you've been waiting for most of your life (that's is if you are true fans)...

I watched it in Sydney and it cost me $25AU, that's $26US to you miserable scrooges who are the very reason why this film is not performing as well!

Call yourselves cbm geeks when the general public are probably funding your movie dreams more than yourself.

You don't see me complaining rather singing an awesome film's praises.

Its made more internationally, so its a good move by Paramount. Seriously the world doesn't revolve round the US you know, 352 million is not struggling. So get over it
Hellsing
Hellsing - 5/18/2011, 5:35 AM
Batman Begins which was batmans long awaited return to the big screen got him 372 million or so. Yeah did great in the US not so much internationally. Thor's not far off from that, which astonishing considering the fact that Batman's much more popular. Some you make it sound like the film's flopped because it hasn't gotten over 150 in the US like I said the world don't revolve round the US. There's people in other countries that watch movies too you know.

I think that the other characters (Ironman, X-Men, Hulk, Spider-man) have had their own series for years, are well-recognized heroes. If you are not a comics fan, maybe the movie is the first time you listen about Thor.

Thor was a great movie, but with gas at $4.00 or higher a gallon a person has to make a decision: Fill my car or take the family to the movies. Tough one to make. Thor has being doing wonderfully on the worldwide market. Over $345,000,000 is a good take.

With films being released on Dvd and Blue-ray alot earlier than ever before it comes as no suprise less people are willing to part with there money to go to the cinema to watch a film once for £10 or so when they can wait a couple of months and pay just a little extra to be able to watch it whenever they choose.
