Review Opinion

To be honest, there really hasn't been a Marvel film I have disliked. Yeah, some of them aren't as good as others, but I really haven't seen too many flaws in Marvel's productions since 2008 when the first Iron Man film came out. 'Thor' does not change my mind one bit. Yeah, to be honest, it's not my favorite superhero film to date, but it is one my near favorites.

Now onto the review....

To be honest, I never knew about the superhero, Thor until I saw the teaser of the film after Iron Man 2. I didn't know about his hammer or anything. Never even heard of the name. But in the last year, I had heard more about the superhero and seen all the promising-looking trailers, and I grew to have high expectations for this film. And the film exceeded my expectations. 'Thor' has to be one of Marvel's best films to date in the way of visual effects - from the towers of Asgard (that remind me of piano organs you'd see at a church) to the ever-cold
Jotunheim - land of the frost giants (the frost giants are also visually stunning in their own right) to the Bifrost Bridge - I did not see any flaws at all in the visual effects category of the film.

The acting is very solid - Chris Hemsworth plays Thor very well - he represents the hero's personality, strengths and weaknesses, and intensity very solidly. Natalie Portman plays Jane Foster quite solid as well - she isn't perfect in it, but she can qualify in the "great" category. Tom Hiddleston who plays the treasonous Loki does his job - from being the "weak" brother of Thor to the almighty king of Asgard. Anthony Hopkins as Odin (Thor's father of course) plays his part almost perfect - he makes us emotionally feel for him when Thor insults him and when he sees his son, Loki fall to a treacherous death right in front of his eyes. Kat Denning who plays Darcy - the "now" character that is into all the gadgets and such, is kind of a unneeded character since she doesn't really do a whole lot in the film, but she kind of gives us laughs a couple of times - again, her character isn't exactly "needed" in the film, but she played her part well enough. Stellan Skarsgard plays Jane's mentor, Dr. Erik Selvig solid as well while S.H.I.E.L.D agent, Phil Coulson (played by Clark Gregg) is tremendous yet again in this film. All the other characters in the film from key ones not mentioned or ones in one or two scenes were all played well. I honestly, didn't see any flaws in the acting.

There really weren't many flaws in this film at all considering the main ones for a superhero film - action, acting and visual effects were all great. If I had to give any flaws to this film, I would have to say that I had a hard time following the story a couple of times (If I had read the comic books or knew more about the character, I probably would have known what was happening) but for the most part, I could follow it pretty well. And maybe one other flaw I could find would be that the film is less than two hours. Yes, the film provides enough in under 120 minutes to make it not feel rushed, I just expect superhero films to take over 2 hours - again, that's a very minor complaint, I just felt that the running time could've been stretched slightly longer. But both of those flaws might as well be thrown in the trash since those are very minor and not really worth taking points off of.

Overall, the film is great - again, not my favorite superhero film, but one of my favorites. The action is aplenty as there is always something going on that there really aren't any particular scenes that you'd just take a quick minute and go to the restroom during the film - if you did so, you'd probably miss a good part. That just shows you how much the movie throws at you. And that's why this film gets a quite high rating for me.

I give 'Thor' a 9.5 out of 10 stars. Go see it.

I agree Kat suprised me i thought i would hate her in the movie but i enjoyed her in the role. The 2 thing's that would have made it just about perfect. 1st they should have made him go toe to toe with the Destroyer, make it a teaser of what Hulk vs Thor would be. 2nd give us alot more of Odin's vault. If they would have have Odin explaning the pure power of the thing's he had in there to Thor and Loki that would have made Asgard a more frightening and important place in the universe.
