Taika Waititi's Korg Looks A Little More Threatening In This THOR: RAGNAROK Concept Art

Thor: Ragnarok was full of hilarity, but Korg (played by director Taika Waititi) might just have been the funniest. Some new concept art for the Kronan has appeared online via artist Ian Joyner, and it's decidedly less friendly-looking than what we received in the final film. Joyner explained his design choices in some notes on his ArtSation page.

"An early pass on Korg for Thor: Ragnarok . I thought to tie the yellow from the comic he could have a hint of gold flake in his stone. I had him as a bit more of a tough monster guy, as this was done before we knew what type of character he was going to be, or that the amazing Taika Waititi would be playing him!"

What do you make of the concept art? Do you prefer this over the film's final design? Let us know in the comments!

@RickGrimes - they were all good (except the year of the gas leak)

@ODanil - Even a lot of that year was pretty good, I think...

...I think... It's hard to remember the details... because of the gas.

@ODanil - Agree, they were all good. My disappointment comes with where they took Chang after season 1 and of course losing Troy.

The artwork is beautiful, and the shape of his head is more comic accurate, however, this looks too "techy"... especially for a gladiator-type character.

And now after seeing this, I can understand the design option for his blue-grey tint. It allows you to see more definition between his character & his costume... whereas everything in this concept sort of blends together.

@SKetCH - How techy. Alien seems like more of a description for it. And that makes sense since he is an alien.

I [frick]ing loved this guy. His effects were awful, he looked like a big cartoon, but goddamn was he funny.

It's crazy to think; now "Thing" can meet "Korg."

It's a reality now...

I will never understand why concept arts are better than movie's version.

It's like a better aesthetic and movie exists in concept arts.

@MCUForever - If you're talking about looking better, it's simple, concept art is one frame. A movie has multiple frames, ain't nobody got time for that.

If you're talking about design choices, or that the best design doesn't always get chosen, then that's super subjective. Sometimes you have to pick the one that works best with the story you're creating. It may look cool on it's own, but then it might not fit with the world you're creating.

Seeing this makes me excited for what Marvel Studios can bring to The Thing design wise.

I love how much he looks like taika in the movie. I like the final design better, this is too dark and menacing. Would be great for a real planet hulk movie, but not ragnarok.

@ALostClause - agreed. I like the concept look too but the final product fit the movie’s style more. I just put Ragnarok on for my dad the other day and his biggest complaint was Taikai’s voice didn’t match the character at all.

@ALostClause - lol ya I tried telling him that, but this is the same guy who doesn’t like the dark knight because it made the Gotham police look stupid. My dad is the Drax of Cbm viewers, I could write a book about how he just “doesn’t get it” lol

@DevarikaWoulf - Same here man. I thought I'd probably grow old, or even die when the rights, held by Fox, somehow reverted back to Marvel or be bought back; or even a sort of deal be made à la Sony. But no. Disney just went and bought the whole company, and the official press release was made just yesterday!

It truly is a dream...
