@GodOfMischief, people see the movies because they feel no need for a good story or good action, they just want to see stuff blow up. And its sad that that many people actually like these movies

lol...You are joking, right? This prop is a pebble to the amount of money Bay and the studio rake in for making these movies. Stop being silly.

Please tell me Nicola Peltz has gotten better. Last I saw her in was Last Airbender....no need to say that they're bad memories there.

I don't love this franchise but, I accept what we have cause, I love Transformers. I until someone can do better, I'll take what Bay puts out and the fact that this film has Dinobots, makes me actually care to see it more than the last 3 films. I'm hoping the Dinobots get a lot of screen time though since this film will focus more on them.

I think Nicola Peltz' acting ability will hold up fine next to the emotive prowess of the Transformers.

To be really good (aside from gripes that fans will always have), all these movies really need to do is tone down the catering to every single demographic, get better writers and a better idea of what should be left on the cutting room floor. Which I suppose is easier said than done, when you're working with this kind of budget and expectations on everyone and their dog to shell out for a ticket. Explains all that dog humour doesn't it?

By far the worst of them, Revenge of The Fallen, could be almost entirely salvaged by just going the eff at it in the editing room and chopping off a good 40 minutes of absolute drivel. The McGuffin-propelled plot is fine, the effects are fantastic, it has a couple of good fanboy moments (I'll take you all on!) but it's all bogged down by an exhausting amount of stupidity passing for "humour", pot jokes and pandering butt shots. I'm literally exhausted after watching it.

I think Michael Bay is good director when it comes to set-piece action that still maintains a connection to the characters. Roland Emmerich probably made Independence Day by accident, because everything since just totally loses grip of what's happening in favour of large-scale spectacle. Even if you hate Shia with a fiery passion, you can't argue against the fact that the characters still firmly remain at the centre of a Transformers movie, and through them you are tethered to the action scenes in a way you can't take for granted with these things. Though mild, there are tangible "stakes" in a car chase in Transformers, it's not just inconsequential robot wrestling on a highway.

I think there are reasons that RoTF was such a disaster, and I think we can all agree that DoTM was a semi-return to the modest-but-considerable success of the first as a family-friendly adventure movie. There are definitely parts of DoTM that take off in insane directions and doesn't have the awareness to just get the hell out of the movie's way, but again, get an editor on that. At script stage, preferably. But hey, I'll take a "sane person's cut" of it. Lord knows I've felt compelled to make one of RoTF myself.

As much as love his action scenes this movie just seems unnecessary. I would have rather a new director did this one. This seems and sounds ridiculous now.

What I hate is how the Transformers are just background characters in their own movie. The final scene in the 1st one was a massive battle while all we really see is Sam running around and Transformers fighting off camera and on the background.

@SimonM7 Ya wtf happened to it? There was nothing negative at all about it.

@GodOfMischief Agreed...it made sense in the first but there are so many cases where we're watchin stupid humans and they are blocking what is going in with the Transformers. How many times is Bumblebee saving the day and smashing some Decepticon in the background. Plus I never know who's fighting who, Bay is not nearly as good with action as people say.

High Moon's games are made by legit Transformers fans, not the self proclaiming ones involved with these movies. Bay is admittedly not a fan and Speilburg is so old he can't figure out how to even transform one of the toys. This is who is trusted to handle this?
SimonM7
SimonM7 - 9/3/2013, 9:14 PM
These movies are made for a bajillion gazillion dollars and have to make it back three-fold. They can't really afford to be the niche thing they'd be if they were robot war soap operas like the comic and to a lesser degree the cartoon.

I think they could do a better job of referencing the character relationships and factions and stuff, because the times they've done that so far it's just kinda out of the blue and a bit awkward, but the realities of blockbuster film-making on this scale prevents them from being pure fan-service.

If wishes were horses, and all that, but they would bomb miserably if they weren't structured the way they are.

These movies are fine if you go in only expecting amazing visuals, little to no story, and humor that's not that humorous.
SimonM7
SimonM7 - 9/3/2013, 9:21 PM
Yeah, the humour kinda bothers me the most. Not that there's humour, but it's *so incredibly stupid*. It's like hearing someone go off on an awful tangent, and you're just sitting there, waiting for things to get back on track.

And the thing I find the most bewildering about it is; is it deliberate? I mean I'm sure there are heeeeaaaappsssss of people out there that find robot testicles an absolute, complete hoot. I bet leg-humping robots is on a bunch of people's lists of the bestest things ever, and pot jokes? Don't get me started! Scary Movie is a franchise built *entirely on pot jokes*. So is it calculated and precise and perfectly aware of which segment of the audience it's geared towards? Or is it misguided, sloppy, ham-fisted and obnoxious attempts at *really* being funny?

I just can't tell.

If you take all the movies, edit out the humans and put the robot conflict together you can make 1 sick movie. There are moments when its awesome, like Prime dropping out of that plane in ROTF kinda had that feel from the Animated movie where he takes off and fights all the Decepticons on his own. All I am saying is when this is rebooted if they can hit anywhere near where the Cybertron games do they will smash all box office records. These movies suck and they make a billion, imagine they were actually really good.
