Transformers: The Last Knight will be director Michael Bay's fifth movie in that franchise, and regardless of the critical reception to them, they've all been massive box office successes. So, surely the filmmaker is being courted to work on a big superhero movie, right? Well, during an interview with Collider, Bay made his feelings on the genre clear and it doesn't sound like he has too much interest.
However, it's not because he isn't a fan! "I really liked Civil War. I like a lot of the Marvel movies," Bay said. "When I saw Iron Man, it broke a lot of new ground for me, and it was a great character. Funny, witty, I liked that about it." However, he added that he does, "wonder where [superhero movies] are going to go," due to the fact that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War have, "almost the same setup." So, will he he try to shake things up by offering his own take?
"I wouldn’t want to, it’s not my thing, it’s just not my gig," Bay explained, saying he has a greater interest in creating his own universe - as he did with Transformers - rather than stepping into one that's already started. "I don’t ever wanna take someone like a third of something or second of something. I gotta do my own thing, because the most fun is when a real director creates the world. You know, you talk to Ridley Scott, one our favorite things to do is to create the world. Steven Spielberg, create the world. That is what it’s about. If I were to do something I would have to redo it my way."
Would you like to see Bay take a crack at a superhero movie? If so, which one? Either way, it doesn't sound like it will happen, but as always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
