New Featurette Shows The Amazing CGI Effects Of THE WALKING DEAD

Thought all those zombie hoards were real? Scratching your head at the gory effects which see them torn in half? Well, you may be surprised to discover just how much of the AMC show is made up of visual effects!

I'm not sure about you guys, but I never really thought The Walking Dead was a CGI heavy show. Sure, I've often assumed that the odd city backdrop is added in during post (such as the scene earlier this season which saw fires raging in Atlanta as the armed forces attempted to stem the zombie infection) but I never quite realised just how much the series relies on its visual effects team. The following featurette offers up a look at what exactly is added in without us ever even realising. I for one assumed that all those "Walkers" were extras and didn't think for a second they were CGI additions. If nothing else, the footage is a real credit to those working on The Walking Dead - it's not often you find a TV show with truly convincing effects. Check it out below and sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

I'm actually suprised how much cgi is used. Especially the crowd scenes. Good CGI too, foor TV, it's come on leaps and bounds.

This show is absolutely amazing, and I can't wait to see more. I just hope they don't change Shane's story in the future just to please new coming fans. I'm all for pleasing the fans, but if his fate changes, the whole thing does too.

don't forget that just because zombies are composited into a shot doesn't mean they wernt filmed in a studio and added in! i think all of those walkers would have been filmed and are added in to a scene as and when! they arn't 3d generated zombies......

@gelfling None of the walkers would be 3D generated, not full bodied ones anyway, just crowd mechanics, only i didn't realise when i saw it.

I am really surprised how much CGI is used...some of those scenes i'd figure4d were cgi...and the zombie with his head hanging of was pretty obvious...but the zombie herd scenes i thought were filled with extras...

I am impressed...
