When it was originally revealed that Stephen King, along with his son Joe Hill, would write either a season two or season three episode of AMC's The Walking Dead, horror fans rejoiced. One of the writer's many credits include Cell, a very frightening and intense novel featuring zombies, and this alone resulted in excitement being at an all time high. Unfortunately, Bleeding Cool have now broken the news that King will no longer be penning an episode of the show. Why? Well...

Bleeding Cool have heard from a good source near the show that the moment Stephen King‘s plan to write an episode of The Walking Dead with his son Joe Hill was extinguished was the moment that Frank Darabont came unbound from the show.


What a shame! However, I suppose it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise considering the close relationship between King and Frank Darabont. (who has previously directed such Stephen King adaptations as The Shawshank Redemption and The Mist) What do you guys make of this? I am kind of relieved that Stephen King isn't going to write an episode. King has a particular writing style that wouldn't fit well with the established universe. On the other hand, if Stephen King or Joe Hill were to become permanent writers, then I would be excited.

To be honest, I was not impressed with the first episode of season two, but then again, I am a huge fan of the comics.

We will see how season two unfolds, I have my fingers crossed!

TWD jumped the shark when it premiered. Zombies don't translate well to the small screen. You've got a stupid group of survivors going from place to place, striving to put right what once went wrong and hoping each time that the next place will be the place to call home. >_o

This has nothing to do with the story, but has anyone actually seen the movie the Mist in the past few years?

I saw it years ago but it's like the one movie that never replays on cable for some reason.

Had to be these greedy bastards at AMC, choosing stability over creativity by firing Frank Darabount, and by extension, losing Steven King.

What happened to the days of the Auteur?

Awesome movie. The Mist is a good example of why Darabount is a such a talented director: He knows how to bring out the proper tension and atmosphere in everything he directs.

Probably why the guy does mainly Stephen King adaptations.

as for frank leaving, don't care the reason i am out! no king kinda sucks too. walking dead could be the next 'heroes'. promising start then after it takes off gets jumbled and looses all that made it fun to begin with

Why doesn't Stephen King's writing style lend itself to the established universe? If nothing else, King is a, if not THE, master of:
A) Writing the "everyman/woman"
B)Ensemble character pieces
C)Placing common people in horrible and terrifying circumstances, and letting the reader see how peoples' true colors come out during times of crisis. For me(and this is just my opinion) this is a central part of The Walking Dead. And, he even knows how and where to throw in just enough twisted, qwirky humor so that it's not all, horror-horror-horror until the reader/viewer gets desensetized.
