The Punisher sets his sights on The Walking Dead

Thomas Jane is reportedly eying a role for the AMC zombie show and says he may have been the first choice to possibly portray Rick...

The man who played one of Marvel's badboys in 2004 when he took on the role of Frank Castle in The Punisher, said he was originally going to star in the comic adaptation of The Walking Dead when it was first planned to head to HBO. But when the zombies shuffled over to AMC, Jane stuck with HBO to star in another series, Hung. Does that mean Jane was almost Rick? Interesting...

Jane spent his Emmys night with TWD director Frank Darabont and the two were hatching out a plan to get Jane into a future role with the show - likely season 2 when it gets officially greenlit if all goes well for the zombie show.

"I'm not going to be a zombie," said Jane, "That's too much make up." However he did disclose what type of character he would be doing for the AMC adaptation.

"I'm going to come on and do a guest thing," said Jane, "Maybe play a bad guy."

Does this mean he could be the Governor? But isn't that too soon? So maybe he'll be a new character made just for the show in a smaller guest capacity. Either way - this is cool news. Jane also spoke highly of the show and says he's seen The Walking Dead and it owns some dead ass.

"That show is going to be a a big f----- hit," said Jane, "I've seen it and is fan-f---- tactic."

BillyBlack: Yeah, The Mist was one awesome movie. And what an ending!

As for The Walking Dead, it looks freaking awesome, so adding Thomas Jane to things would surely just help to make it even better! Good stuff KEV. :)

Shit man, The Mist as a first person survival game would be loads of win. Two campaigns (one for the people trapped in the store, the other for the Army) would kick so much ass.

Wahoo! Biel Bomb!! :)

Jane would of been awsome as Rick. I doubt it'll be the Governor tho. I believe Darabont said at Comic-con that they wouldn't get to the prison until the end of season 3.

So if Janes gonna be in season 2 it won't be as The Governor. It'll most likely be a new character they make up for the show.

Back to the Gov tho..

Josh/Tyler/LEEE

Exactly. It wouldn't take much to lay out a decent storyline based of the film, and I would love to see more of the monsters they would throw at you fully developed. That would have serious game of the year potential.

Love Jane. Great Punisher too IMO. And The Mist was amazing. I can't believe the shit that film gets from some critics/fans. I also read the short story, its one of teh few times a movie is actually given a bleaker ending than the book! Its usually the other way around in Hollywood.

Yeah The Mist was badass, one of the best movies I have ever seen, ending was unexpected and awesome. And yes Jane is gonna be the best Punisher forever. A Punisher tv series would be kickass. The Mist as a Video Game would be fantastic hehe.

thomas jane was alright as the punisher,it just the movie that sucked.

Jane's Punisher movie seemed to promise more for the sequel when it suggested that he was going to either Chicago or New York. The director's cut was much better, btw. Also, the only lame part for me in that movie was Travolta's death. Just looked like a weak cop-out.
I'd love to see Jane on Walking Dead as a re-occuring role. Hung won't last forever...

I kind of see Jane as Rick. More than the guy who they actually got to be honest. Although, I'm sure he will do fine.

@Lee: Agreed, The Punisher NEEDS to be an HBO/Showtime series.

Jane would be ok as The Governor! Thou i prefer Elias Koteas! He is great for that role! Jane should play Allen, Hershel or Abraham (You know that big mercenary guy). Idris Elba should play Tyreese!

Yep! The Mist as a videogame....I'd be in HEAVEN! Great potential there. Another King title for a videogame? The Shining! Could be right up there with Silent Hill! And while we're on the subject of video games...how about a Walking Dead game?
