THE PUNISHER Star Jon Bernthal Will Return As Shane For THE WALKING DEAD Season 9

Despite being very dead, Shane Walsh will be back for the ninth season of AMC's The Walking Dead. Jon Bernthal was recently spotted on the set, and now it's been officially confirmed that he'll return...

The Punisher star Jon Bernthal was recently spotted hanging out with some old friends near the set of The Walking Dead, which led to speculation that his long-dead character Shane would be making a comeback.

We still don't know exactly how that's going to be achieved, but TV Line has now confirmed that we will indeed be seeing Mr. Walsh again. Shane was killed-off back in season 2 when his obsession with moving in on Rick's family was taken to dangerous levels, forcing Rick to put his former friend down.

Right now, the safest bet would be Shane popping up in a flashback, but there's also a chance he could reappear as one of the increasingly unstable Rick's hallucinations.

Rick is hallucinating him. That's my bet.

@web3d - Actually I think it's going to be all flashbacks with him.

Rick isn't crazy anymore and has no reason to hallucinate him.

I'd say we get some flashbacks of the two of them as cops. Which would be really really great.

@bigdannymac - "____ isn't crazy anymore," doesn't apply to this show. Everyone goes through cycles of being ultra-violent, pacifistic, crazy, calm, etc. as the need arises.

Just enough to keep the soap opera churning without letting any character get too broadly hated.

@web3d - Hasn't been any hallucinations in a long time.

@bigdannymac - yeah, I think it will be flash backs. But as Rick is dying or about to die or sacrifice his own life... he is remember some good times.

@WarNoodle - I really REALLY hope they don't kill him off but instead just shift focus and have him still referenced.

Leaves it open for guest appearances

@web3d - It'll be as Rick is dying and Shane will "lead" him towards the afterlife where he'll see Lori and Carolll. I'd bet anything that's what they'll do. The show tries so hard to be artsy with the slow pans and disjointed storytelling but almost always falls on its face instead. I still watch just to see it through to the end but, man, it's getting hard to keep at it. And don't get me started on all the logic jumps necessary for the characters to do what the story demands they do at the moment.

@MUTO123 - I think people are underestimating this movie.

@L0RDbuckethead - I still have hope this is the best prank of Ashton Kutcher's career or something like that, and that soon it'll be revealed that Cheetah is in fact played by Charlize Theron.
