Debuting in 1995 from the Eisner Award winner Kurt Busiek and illustrators Brent Anderson and Alex Ross, Astro City was a 16 part comic book series that explored the lives of those living in the eponymous metropolis - both normal and super. It is also the most recent in a long list of comic book properties to get the TV adaptation treatment.
Coming from Freemantle Media, the production company behind STARZ's American Gods and Gregory Noveck who served as the executive producer on arguably the two best DCAU films Justice League: The New Frontier and Batman: Under the Red Hood, the series will see Busiek along with Rick Alexander, pen the script for the proposed show's pilot.
"It's a thrill to be working with Rick, Gregory and Freemantle Media on this." Busiek said in a statement. "Everyone, at every turn, is supportive, helpful and completely focused on capturing the feel of Astro City and bringing it to life as a TV show."
There's currently no time frame or further information on the creative team for the adaptation, and with the Deadline report only making mention of a pilot, there's no guarantee the show will go to series.
