Looks like the rumors that circulated around the web late last year were true: the rights holders to Buffy The Vampire Slayer really are trying to get a new movie made.

Here’s the kicker, though: Buffy’s creator and the man who made the character work so well when he brought it to TV – Joss Whedon – isn’t involved.

I can hear Buffy fans sharpening their stakes already!

Buffy rights holders Fran Rubel Kuzui and hubby Kaz have partnered up with Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment to start developing a “relaunch”...in other words a "reboot"! That damn "R" word haunts many fans dreams and makes the movie makers eyes roll with dollar signs.

It won’t feature the supporting cast – Willow, Xander, Spike or Angel – from the show, but instead is a plan to restart the storyline. Apparently making use of the "Slayer for every generation" concept from the show. But her name will still be Buffy? Bunch of geniuses these guys.

So basically, the people responsible for gutting Whedons original script and concept and churning out the 1992 Kirsty Swanson movie(aka piece of shit) are moving ahead with another movie without the man that succeeded in making Buffy enjoyable in the first place with the much loved TV show.

I was never a massive fan, although i did enjoy the last few seasons and the spin off show "Angel", but i know that the elements that made the show so popular all came from Joss Whedon. If you dont believe me just watch the original movie!

File this under brain-fart along with Todd McFarlanes new "Spawn" idea
