In this week’s Arrow the team learns that Ray is alive and is being held captive by Damien Darhk. Arrow this week was not one of their best but it was still an enjoyable episode. Last episode we left off with Felicity and Curtis discovering that Ray is alive. Felicity has been so consumed on trying to find Ray, she forgot to tell Oliver what was going on or where she was. One thing I really enjoyed was how Curtis was trying to figure out if Oliver was the Green Arrow by covering his face with his hand. Although I’m sure he will eventually know because like I’ve complained about before, everyone has to know his identity. Now that Oliver and the team knows that Ray is alive, the hunt begins on them trying to find him. I don’t know if it’s the nerd in me but I don’t like Felicity and Oliver as a couple knowing who he’s supposed to be with. Also I am not a fan of the relationship drama that takes place while they are on a mission. It seems like Oliver wasn’t focused and Felicity was the cause of it. Speaking of Felicity, Felicity’s mom Donna Smoak is back. I not a fan of her character and think she wasn’t necessary for this episode and just a distraction from the task of saving Ray. A scene I enjoyed this episode was when Oliver and Diggle shared a drink and just had a normal conversation. Reminded me of season one when it was just the two of them. Their relationship seems to be rekindled as they were able to relax, have a drink and just talk and remember they have normal problems still too. The Arrow team learns that Damien Darhk has Ray because he wants Ray’s tech for some reason. Felicity and Oliver decide have Curtis help in building a device to return Ray to full size. Now that the whole team is together including Sara, we see them go on a mission to retrieve a part that will help Curtis build the device. They get the device but also set off the alarm. This leads into a fight between team Arrow and the security guards and this revealed that Sara is not in control as she beats that security guard to a pulp. After watching the episode I’m glad they brought her back in right away because it moved her story along. She realized that she is not ready to get back into this life yet and she needs some time away, setting up another character for Legends of Tomorrow. As of now it doesn’t seem to take away from the progression of the season. Even though most of us know Legends of Tomorrow is coming, I’m trying to watch as if I didn’t know that the spin-off was announced and just able to tell that that something is coming. Team Arrow gets the help of Captain Lance to infiltrate Damien Darhk’s lair, where he Ray kept hostage. Curtis actually goes on the mission with the device and was able to assist the team without knowing the Green Arrow’s identity which I still think will happen eventually for numerous reasons. (Look up Mister Terrific and tell me I’m wrong.) We got to see Damien use his powers on Oliver again and made you actually feel like he was in trouble but with the help of a little magical vile, he escapes from Damien. Team Arrow’s plan was successful in rescuing Ray and we finally have Brandon Routh back as Ray Palmer. After being the size of a tic-tac for six months, you would think he would have some issues but he’s still as quirky and funny as always. Ray’s decision not to reveal that he is alive yet is I believe another setup for Legends of Tomorrow. Everyone thinks he’s already dead, so he can literally go where and WHEN ever he wants. One thing before I end this review is the flashbacks. We learn that the people Oliver is infiltrating is actually looking for something related to that cave we saw in the last episode with Constantine. It makes me think if anything will relate to Damien Darhk or perhaps Vandal Savage (The rumored villain of Legends of Tomorrow.) Overall, it was a decent episode that set up some things to come in this season and the new show but nothing extraordinary or special.
