Stephen Amell Is Hoping For A More Socially Conscious And Comic Accurate ARROW For Season Six

It's no secret that Arrow is a slightly darker take on the character of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, but Stephen Amell would like to change that by taking the character more towards his comic roots.

Arrow has been one of the mainstays on The CW for going on six years now, as people were lured in by the amazing action sequences and grittier take. While there have been some ups and downs with the series, it has maintained a certain level of viewership to keep it going.

The show's star, Stephen Amell, is hoping to see a more socially conscious, comic accurate and liberal version Oliver Queen start to take shape on the series. "I've said that it's very, very important that if Oliver doesn't take away lessons from Season 5 and doesn't keep doing the things that have led to this catastrophic event, the character stops being interesting to me," Amell explained. "So I hope that part of that, in Season 6 and if we have seasons beyond that, I hope that part of that is we get back to a lot of the tenets that people recognize from the comics. And that of course is humor and a socially conscious, slightly liberal superhero."

While the show is still going strong, some still take issue with Green Arrow acting more like Batman. However, Amell would like to see Oliver's personality start to take on more characterization from the comics. "The comics version, he has some really interesting qualities that make him unique, and I hope we get to explore more of those," he said.

Arrow season six will premiere on The CW Thursday October 12th.

I would love to see that happen. But how would you explain it? Going from super dark, to super humorous

I agree with him and hopefully the showrunners still have some of that juice from Season 5 to at least heed their main lead actor's wishes for this.

Hoping they don't mind to invite more new characters from other Earths to Earth-1 to interact with him and the rest. They have to be grounded or slightly strong metahumans like Black Siren is. To cut to the chase I'd like to see his half-sister from the comics Emiko Queen to be introduced.

The Arrow family needs to be expanded with her. We already have him, Thea/Mia Dearden, Roy and Connor from the future. So Emiko next, please.

I dont think you can get to that goofy GA considering the trials Arrow has had in the past 5 years...

His son was held at gunpoint, people were blown up on that island, being the mayor is a stressing job....

After what happened at the end of Season 5, him having a sense of humor is the last thing I would expect to see.

Really enjoyed the last season of Arrow. Final episode a credit to the whole production team and cast - more like a movie than a TV show!

Can see what Amell is saying. Supergirl, The Flash and Legends (especially) have lighter tones than Arrow. No harm weaving in more jocular and witty dialogue and scenes without damaging the core storytelling!
