Season two of Batwoman wrapped up last night, but when the series returns to The CW for its third season, it will be without one regular cast member.
Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Dougray Scott, who plays Jacob Kane, Kate Kane's father, will not be back. It doesn't really make much sense to keep him around, and when we last saw him, he'd disbanded the Crows and was arrested for helping his fugitive daughter, Alice.
Absent from the Batwoman finale, it seems Jacob Kane's story in the CWVerse has reached its end.
"Having Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane on Batwoman was incredibly special for all of us," showrunner Caroline Dries says. "An actor with his pedigree and reputation elevates any project, and he had great chemistry with his castmates. We loved telling Commander Kane's story for the last two seasons, and we will always leave the door open to have him return. We wish him the very best!"
She added that the character has "sort of run its course, for better or for worse, through that storyline. So it worked out that it was mutual [with Scott]. We ended up being able to really write to a good ending for Jacob, just kind of knowing in advance that's what we were going to do. I'm very pleased with how that story line worked out for him. It allowed us to give Dougray some really rich stuff toward the end."
It seems that Scott isn't the only noteworthy departure from Batwoman, because, as we explained in our recap, Wallis Day's Kate Kane also left Gotham City for the time being. While the door is open for her to return, it seems the series is now going to move on from the Kane family to follow the story of Jacivia Leslie's Ryan Wilder (which isn't what many fans signed up for when the show started).
