BATWOMAN Season 3 Loses An Original Cast Member Confirms Showrunner Caroline Dries - SPOILERS

Batwoman is a series that's been through a lot of changes since debuting on The CW, and it's now been confirmed that another original cast member is departing the show. Find more details after the jump!

Season two of Batwoman wrapped up last night, but when the series returns to The CW for its third season, it will be without one regular cast member.

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Dougray Scott, who plays Jacob Kane, Kate Kane's father, will not be back. It doesn't really make much sense to keep him around, and when we last saw him, he'd disbanded the Crows and was arrested for helping his fugitive daughter, Alice.

Absent from the Batwoman finale, it seems Jacob Kane's story in the CWVerse has reached its end.

"Having Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane on Batwoman was incredibly special for all of us," showrunner Caroline Dries says. "An actor with his pedigree and reputation elevates any project, and he had great chemistry with his castmates. We loved telling Commander Kane's story for the last two seasons, and we will always leave the door open to have him return. We wish him the very best!"

She added that the character has "sort of run its course, for better or for worse, through that storyline. So it worked out that it was mutual [with Scott]. We ended up being able to really write to a good ending for Jacob, just kind of knowing in advance that's what we were going to do. I'm very pleased with how that story line worked out for him. It allowed us to give Dougray some really rich stuff toward the end."

It seems that Scott isn't the only noteworthy departure from Batwoman, because, as we explained in our recap, Wallis Day's Kate Kane also left Gotham City for the time being. While the door is open for her to return, it seems the series is now going to move on from the Kane family to follow the story of Jacivia Leslie's Ryan Wilder (which isn't what many fans signed up for when the show started).

Are you excited for this fresh direction heading into season three of Batwoman?

It's official, Batwoman has no real actors left in it...

It's the Arroweverse. Everyone still calls it that. In interviews, the actors still call it that. Stop trying to make CWVerse a thing ..

@bigdannymac - Aside from anything it doesn't even make any sense when some of the shows started on other networks like CBS and NBC.

This series's over the top attempt to hammer in a point killed it before it had a chance to really begin. The script honestly reads like it was written by an 11 year old who just looked up the definition of feminism. I hope the second season acts as essentially a full reboot. Only way I can see it lasting past the winter break.

How is this show still on?

@BlackBeltJones - The real tragedy is that a Batwoman show could have been good if they had gotten better writers. Maybe HBO Max someday.

@soberchimera - with HBO Max WB could really start investing the right kind of capital into the DC universe.

Let the CW adaptations die.

I was hoping that Wallis Day would stick around as a main character alongside Javicia but I guess I expected too much but hopefully we will eventually find out what happened to Bruce Wayne eventually.

@Godzilla2000Zer - I was hoping she would stick around too. So many reasons...

But in the end, at this point it makes sense to just clear the slate of the entire Kane family drama and start anew. It will likely just turn into a straight up Batwoman with classic Batman villians. Even the Joker got a mention last night. I imagine that all these villians will rise up in the aftermath of The Crows disbanding and the GCPD going down as corrupt. It will be a lawless Gotham with vigilantes (Batwoman and Batwing) to keep the justice. That could be good, or it could be a total farce.

@tugboy - Yeah knowing them they'll probably screw it up but I'll give them a chance but Batwoman was a show that I felt had alot of potiential but they keep making mistake after mistake the biggest of which was just not recasting the role from the start. Shame on all of them.

@Godzilla2000Zer - Since they seem to be going down the road of Batman rogue's gallery, they could bring Wallis Day back...

This has been the shittiest handling of a main actor leaving a show I've ever seen. They absolutely butchered a characters first live action appearance and wrote her out of her own show because the writers room too woke. This is worse than race swapping, they straight up killed off then wrote off the [frick]ing main character... because diversity.

When I said we wanted out own heroes, our own original characters, this isn't what I meant.

White Hollywood still ain't getting it.

@ElricReturns - You can't entirely blame the writers room, Ruby Rose FORCED their hand by leaving and deciding to pursue better paying gigs.
ElricReturns
ElricReturns - 6/28/2021, 7:52 AM
@Blergh - I totally blame whoever made the decision to write Kate out of her show. Nobody else. If that was the writers room, I blame them. So long as contracts weren't broken or were negotiations were made successfully to leave early, Ruby had every right to leave. The creatives decided it was an opportunity to give a black person the spotlight. Had this been planned all along as a successor story, I'd have been 100% open to this. But that wasn't in reality how it went down.

@ElricReturns - When you start going the tired "woke" route, an all too easy cop-out for those who lack imagination, and then say an opportunity to give a Black person the spotlight, yeah its easy to figure out what you are really about and its not about real quality TV.
Blergh
Blergh - 6/28/2021, 7:39 AM
This show was ill-fated from the very beginning, any show that was not "Batman" would always be looked at begrudgingly. Then the casting of Ruby Rose, a not really beloved actress, caused the next drama. Then the pilot was recieved incredibly badly and ultimately Rose's departure (for whatever reason, I think we all know why she really left) forced the show into directions it neither should or would have taken if everything went smoothly.

I'm sure it'll end with season 4 being the last.

WB should just finally cave in and allow a proper "Batman" show to be introduced into the Arrowverse to have this go full circle.

@Blergh - Yeah, find a way to hit the reset button - it sounds like folks like this new Superman. Keep him around, and introduce the Batman you mentioned and go from there, have a World's Greatest arc...maybe even see if they can introduce Wonder Woman. I'd say Flash, but I wonder if that show is on its way out or not. I guess either way could have where Flash guest stars on Superman or Batman show every now and then or a crossover.

But probably time to go back to basics, otherwise...seems like an end to an era or the golden age of superhero shows on CW.

Stupid decision to not keep Wallis Day as the lead. Ryan’s character is very mah and seemed forced as hell, they had a real chance to turn this around by keeping Day as the lead, she’s better than Rose and Leslie combined.

While I haven’t hated this season at all Batwoman has actually been the worst part of it. I enjoyed Alice’s arc, Luke is probably the best thing in the show, the Sionis family drama was decent, even Jacob’s mini story was more interesting. There is nothing about Ryan Wilder that’s interesting or different

This show…….I think I really am done (first Arrowverse show I drop). Gave it 2 seasons to turn itself around and despite early signs of change for the better this season, it has only gotten worst.

Also I’m fine with politics in superhero stuff but wow does this show not do it well. Its like those really bad hot topic issue episodes that the other shows do once in a while but on a regular basis. They also have wasted a good amount of story potential just to take the easy way out in relation to those issues. (Seriously Bats dont try to force people to basically shut down the police, change them from the inside like Gordon)

Plus Arrow did the brooding non powered hero way better

Black Lightning handled the race politics way better

@GarthRanzz - luke and alice seriously carry the show. Really give Luke a Batwing spin off after next season (would rather have Batwing than more Batwoman but Luke obviously needs more development before going solo), team him up with Stephanie Brown

SpiderFanMan - 6/28/2021, 11:04 AM
@dracula - I’d absolutely be down for switching this to Batwing. As I said in my comment Luke is probably the best thing about the show, with Alice being a close second. Ryan Wilder is just not interesting at all

Show really wasn't doing him any favors anyway. After S1 he had far less to do.
