Batwoman's second season wrapped up with Kate Kane leaving Gotham City, making Ryan Wilder the new, permanent Scarlet Knight (however, the biggest surprise for Ryan was learning that her biological mother is still alive). With Poison Ivy likely set to be the big bad of season three, we have intel on a few other characters coming to The CW series.
We start with "Jada Jet," someone The Illuminerdi explains is a Black woman in her late 40s/early 50s. The CEO of Jet Industries, she's described as "an impassioned, industrious, and powerful woman who has worked her way to the top."
Protective of her "reckless and at times menacing" son, Marquis, she had to give up her first child due to circumstances beyond her control. So, yes, it sounds like this could be Ryan's mother, and the fact that the vigilante missed out on a life of wealth by being left in the foster care system should make for compelling viewing.
Marquis is also being cast and is in his early 20s. A "sexy playboy," he had a run-in with one of Batman's foes as a child, and the experience changed him and now means he "[finds] delight in the suffering and terror of others, which can only be kept in check by his mother." Don't be surprised if he ends up taking over the mantle from whoever that villain was he crossed paths with.
The big news, however, is that Batwoman is looking to cast Renee Montoya. The hunt is on for a Latinx or Afro-Latinx actress in her mid-30s, and this version will be in charge of the "freaks division" in the Mayor's office after leaving the GCPD over its treatment of Gotham's poorer citizens. She will be LGBTQ+ here and "is on a personal, and enigmatic, mission to clean up Gotham’s streets the right way by any means necessary."
Could The Question be coming to the series? It sounds like a very real possibility...
