The CW is developing a new series based on the Batman: Gotham Knights comic books, with Batwoman writers/producers Natalie Abrams, Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux on board.
Deadline has shared a lengthy logline for the show, and it sounds like the project will actually be based on the upcoming video game while also adapting elements from Devin Grayson's 2000s run and the more recent Battle for The Cowl storyline.
"In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been.
However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights."
The original premise of Gotham Knights was to focus on the adventures of Batman's extended family, such as Alfred, Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, Oracle, and Catwoman, among others. Eventually, the series expanded to include some of the Dark Knight's foes, and it sounds like this take on the story will lean into that concept by introducing the sons and daughters of several well-known villains.
Abrams, Fiveash and Stoteraux will pen the series, while the latter two will also executive produce alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden.
