Of all of the the potential source material for the third season of Gotham to draw from, the American presidential election may have been the last thing fans expected. As politicians such as Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton compete against each other in the real world, it seems that the Batman prequel will also be there to tackle the issue head on as it enters its third season this fall. Actor Cory Michael Smith (who portrays Edward Nygma) stated such in an interview with Cinefilos.

According to Smith, "Gotham, like many superhero stories, is a parallel of today's society, of what happens every day, and in the third season, in the fall, when the United States will stand preparing to face one of the most important presidential elections in their history, even Gotham will address in parallel the issue."

How exactly the show will address the topic is anyone's guess at this point, though Gotham City has been without a mayor since the departure of Theo Galavan in the "Rise of the Villains" storyline from Season 2. The third season of the Fox television series is slated to premiere 19 September 2016.

Welcome, I am Darkknight2149. I am primarily a fan of comic books and their various adaptations, as well as horror and other classic film franchises.

As far as the "DC vs. Marvel" rivalry goes, I'm really not biased when it comes to studios and publishers. Preferences are fine, but I've never understood the basing of opinions purely by the studio/publisher that makes it.
