Is 'Black Mask' Coming To GOTHAM?

It seems that yet another iconic comic book character may be headed to Fox's Batman prequel this fall...

With a number of characters already confirmed to appear in the third season of Gotham, including Talon, Jerome Valeska, Mad Hatter, Solomon Grundy, Vickie Vale and a recast Poison Ivy to name a few, the series may be adding yet another classic supervillain to its ranks. The in-universe viral site, the Gotham Chronicle, has published an article focusing on the unveiling of Janus Cosmetics. In the comics, Janus Cosmetics played a prominent role in the history of Roman Sionis, otherwise known as Black Mask. As the origin story goes, Roman Sionis inherited the company from his father, Charles Sionis. As the company was on the verge of bankruptcy, it was bought by Bruce Wayne, who forced Roman Sionis to step down as the president of the company. This led to Roman Sionis' vendetta against Bruce Wayne.

Popular make-up company Janus Cosmetics is opening a brand new location in downtown Gotham. The new store is rumored to be their largest yet and will carry all of their most-sought after products. Janus invites you to transform into the new you at their ribbon-cutting ceremony later this summer.

Given the darkly comical nature of the show, the sadistic crimelord should feel right at home. It should be noted that a character named Richard Sionis aka The Mask has already appeared in the series, but whether or not he is related to Roman Sionis/Black Mask remains to be seen. The series returns with its third season this fall on Fox.

Hopefully Black Mask is handled more like Penguin and less like Fecal Matter Mooney. Black Mask is a character that could be great, but you need to develop him and not just randomly put him out on the show. You need a nice buildup and then Black Mask can be the boss we all enjoy, reading about.

@BlackIceJoe - Are you serious dude? Nothing is being handled properly in this show. this is clearly not made for fans, but the general audience and people with casual knowledge of the Batman mythos. EVERYONE in this show is there just to keep it Batman-centric, meanwhile Batman is still in daipers. It's ridiculous. I don't even mind the villains coming before & Batman shows up as a response to their rise, but Bruce is about 10 years from becoming Batman. 10 FRIKIN' YEARS. Black Mask, Poison Ivy, Vickie Vale...One of Batman's love interests is now an adult. Harvey Dent, a big man already. These people are really just grasping at anything in the Batman mythos, but not doing it logically. We're getting Superman for the 4th time on television... We've only got Batman once with the 60s Batman... And to this date we can't get a proper Batman on TV (Don't gimme any Arrow jokes either)... I watches season 1 of Gotham and that was it... Every new article I read on how they are butchering Batman is a knife to my gut!

@megabatfan -
The series is a reimagining, just like SMALLVILLE. It's not supposed to stick to the comic. Who wants to watch a show about kid Batman sitting in his room?

@Darkknight2149 - It's a poor re-imagining. Nobody wants to see kid Batman sitting in his room.. Nobody wants to see kid Batman. If I had to see a pre-Batman Bruce Wayne, I'd rather spend some time with his as a late teen or young adult, beginning his journey with the training. But if the show is called GOTHAM... then there's no need for Bruce Wayne. If all this were happening in Gotham, and from the pilot episode we found out Bruce had left Gotham City at say 18 - 20 orso, and the show focused strictly on the rise of the villains in the city. It would be an easier pill to swallow. The could bring in all sorts of rogues, we the audience would know there time is limited (because Bats is gonna return in a couple years. But at the age Bruce is right now, no wonder the Gotham PD will be chasing after him when he becomes Batman. He'd be beating up on senior citizens

I am one of few that watch this show, not saying I am a BIG fan, still not 100% sold, but if memory serves me right wasn't Black Mask already on the show?

@Batman89mk -
No. That was Richard Sionis AKA The Mask (an original character who died in Season 2). Black Mask is Roman Sionis.
