Kite Man, hell yeah!
This was probably inevitable given the character's popularity, but Harley Quinn co-creator/co-showrunner Patrick Schumacker has revealed that a spinoff of the adult animated series focusing on the inept, but strangely endearing Kite Man is currently in development for HBO Max.
Kite Man, aka Chuck Brown, was introduced in season 1, and even though she initially dismissed him as a joke, Poison Ivy eventually fell for the minor-league Batman villain and agreed to marry him in season 2. Unfortunately, Chuck discovered Ivy and Harley's infidelity, and was left heartbroken in the finale.
It sounds like he'll be pulling himself out of the murk, though, and has set his sights on taking over managment of notorious supervillain hangout Noonan's (the tentative title of the show).
"He tries to run the bar by himself but it doesn't turn out so easy," said Schumacker during South by Southwest's "Not Kidding Around: Warner Bros. Animation and the Reimagining of Iconic Characters for an Adult Audience" panel. "We have Harley and Ivy appear in the first episode, but after that we have different goons and villains appearing every episode like Lex Luthor and Bane. It will be kind of like 'Cheers' for supervillains."
It sounds like the spinoff is in the very early stages of development, but we also have Harley Quinn season 3 to look forward to. No premiere date has been announced, but Schumacker did share one interesting tidbit.
"We have an episode that's a big love letter to Batman: the Animated Series. We even got some original backgrounds from the show that we use in the episode."
