LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Producers Talk 'Hawkman', 'Booster Gold', 'Jay Jackson' & More

Legends Of Tomorrow won't debut until early 2016, but the show's producers have revealed several fascinating new details - including Hawkman's age and origin, Jay Jackson's story, and Booster Gold!

The Hollywood Reporter recently caught up with Legends Of Tomorrow EP's Marc Guggenheim & Phil Klemmer to discuss some intruiging new details about the show's first season. Beginning with inspiration and tone, Guggenheim revealed that he encouraged writing staff to read Dan Jurgens' 2011 comic book run Time Masters: Vanishing Point, calling it "a good series for its depiction of Rip Hunter and a crazy combination of characters."

Interestingly, THR point out that 'Professor Zoom' (the popular big bad from the first season of The Flash) makes an appearance at the end of Vanishing Point. Could Legends Of Tomorrow follow suit? Guggenheim also revealed that "the show
will contain elements of Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis’ Justice League International run" - alluding to both series' lighter tones.

According to the producers,
Falk Hentschel's 'Hawkman' will be 5,000 years old and will retain the memories from his past lives - but Ciara Renee's 'Hawkgirl' will not. Guggenheim refused to confirm whether the latter is an alien from 'Thanagar', but claimed that fans will "get a chance to see" her origin, calling it "one of the more faithful origins that [The CW] have told."

Franz Drameh was recently cast 'Jay Jackson', a name unfamiliar to fans of DC Comics. Many suggested that he could be the new 'Firestorm', while others believed it was a ruse to hide the identity of another DC character. However, Klemmer revealed that "Jay Jackson not code for any other DC superhero” - so he may well be an original character. In THR's initial casting report, Jackson was described as 'a former high school athlete who was injured in a debilitating accident'.

Finally, is it possible to create a DC time-travel show without including 'Booster Gold'? According to Klemmer, it might have to be. "I wish I could tease a Booster thing, but you might have to wait a good long while - at least on our show" he claimed. We still have no idea about DC's plan for either Booster Gold or Blue Beetle, but their absences from DC TV could potentially suggest a movie is on the way. "Perhaps Booster is being groomed for bigger things..." Klemmer added, coyly.

Legends Of Tomorrow premieres midseason on The CW.

Booster Gold needs to be in LoT. Introduce him in the last episode and bring him as regular for season 2.

Personally i don't want them to have too many characters, IMO they should really flesh out the origins of the characters rather than having too many guys hanging around and the general audience not knowing who or why. And also i want them to really skip the whole villain of the weak thing. Savage is there, let him totally explored in and out, and make him really strong so that the heroes really need to become a team in the real sense, not just for the sake of being in one.

I'm starting to think that Jay Jackson doesn't get powers.
Instead, his consciousness gets digitized, and he's basically like Gideon from Season 1
They need an actor for when he has a holographic form and for the voice, which is why they publicised the casting.
I'm just throwing out ideas here, though.

I believe WB has very big cinema plans for Booster Gold & Blue Beetle. This would give them a chance add some good adventous humor to the DC cinematic universer versus the serious tone we will be getting in Batman v Superman and Suicide squad.

David Ayer said that Suicude Squad is not and serious as people think. Not as much as the trailer may portray it to be, anyway.

@DrunkenMadNukem

Zack Snyder placed these easter eggs so beautifully. I'll be dancing with happiness if Booster Gold turns out in DCCU/DCEU.

This is also extremely interesting considering Arrow wasn't allowed to use the character of Ted Kord in Season 3, so they went with Ray Palmer... Does this mean my dream of a Booster Gold/Blue Beetle team up movie is actually happening?

As one of the biggest Hawkman fans out there, I have to say that any Thanagar related stories should be burned from existence. Those ridiculous stories are one one of the few reasons people can't take that character seriously. Keep Hawkman on Earth!

True. That I do know, but as related the Suicide Squad the serious is more so about the body counts in a PG 13 kind of way. Booster & Blue would be on a totally different humor level with some action intergraded with a good story with perfect timing between characters.

@Abhishake The satisfying thing about it is that, even if we have to wait at least 5 years to get a Booster-Beatle movie (only if we get one), it doesn't feels like a long waiting period. We have too much of awesomeness coming our way in this next 5 years. We are getting the entire league ffs.

@Comicsdoneright you do realize that if they do use Thanagar then it would be a pretty stupid move not to have shiara as hawkgirl right

Not that I'm the biggest Boster Gold fan but how can you have a DC show that centers around an alternate timeline and time travel without him? I think any DC fan would be really happy to see Boster Gold pop up here and there in a few episodes. If they do decide to include him at some point, he doesn't have to be a main character. I think a few episodes that revolve around him or some funny cameos would do just fine.

@InfiniteMonkey

I agree completely. There should more female characters involved or developed. Unfortunately that how the executives see it. It would be nice if and when WB can finally get The Legion of Superheroes out of the development stages and on to the big screen. There are several story arch and strong female characters related to the Legion. It would also cross the space barrier that Marvel has with Thor and the guardians of the Galaxy. I know we're getting the GL Corps but The legion can do some soft time travel which could lead in a major cross over like Marvel has with the Infinity Wars. Just dreaming though.

All I can say is if Ted Kord is included in the DCEU I will be a very happy man. I have no link but apparently Snyder mentioned Blue Beetke in a radio interview recently. As a possibility for a future JL movie.

I don't see the logic in the movies making characters off limits on tv for some characters but you can use Katana, Deathstroke, Deadshot, and oh yeah Flash can have his own series with a movie coming in 2018 but no booster gold cameo? WTF!

I still think that Jay Jackson is J.J. Thunder. He is an inner city teen who discovers a genii. His real name isn't Thunder but is the name given to him because his Genii's form is that of a living thunderbolt. So they call him JJ Thunder. He is the 7th son of a 7th son. They might leave that last part out. JJ Thunder I'm calling it now!

Oh ok true. Yea a BB and Booster Gold movie would be great, I kinda think that's what they're planning, there have been hints here and there that they're gonna be in the DCEU. Like BB being replaced with Atom on Arrow

@voxen

Very good assumption. It's cool the CW is starting to use more Justice Societ members on TV. It would be great to see a series about that. I've always been a fan of the JSA (before the 52 reboot). The 52 reboot is good but the classic will always be my favorite.

Yes @TheRealMandarin I realize. They should just keep it to Carter and Sheira Hall, Reincarnated lovers from Egyptian times. Whether they know each other before or after their powers doesnt matter to me. I just hate the idea from the silver age that everyone had to come from another planet to make them an interesting character. And its why Hawkman has been such a hard character to write for after all these years
