While Man of Steel was technically the first DC Extended Universe movie, it wasn't until Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was released that a shared world to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe was launched. These movies have always struggled to resonate with critics (and many fans, for that matter), but up until now, Wonder Woman has been the DCEU's top-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Patty Jenkins-directed adventure holds 93% on the review aggregator, but HBO Max's Peacemaker has now topped it with 94%.
The score makes it the highest-rated DCEU movie or TV show, which is an impressive feat (especially as we're only four episodes in). Critics were only provided with seven of eight episodes to preserve spoilers, but we're not anticipating a disastrous finale that negatively affects this score in any way.
Another James Gunn project, The Suicide Squad, is in third place with 90%. Ironically, the lowest-rated DCEU movie or TV show is 2016's Suicide Squad (directed by David Ayer) with a lowly 26% score.
"This is great," Gunn said, reacting to the news on Twitter. "Even more, I'm moved by how people all around the world are coming to love Chris, Leota, Adrian, Emilia, & John. On behalf of the whole cast & crew: Thank you!"
The fifth episode of Peacemaker arrives on HBO Max this Thursday.
