CHASING LIFE Actress Italia Ricci Joins SUPERGIRL As 'Silver Banshee'

Melissa Benoist's Supergirl is going to have a powerful baddie to worry about, as Canadian actress Italia Ricci has joined the cast of the CBS show as Siobhan Smythe, aka DC super villain Silver Banshee.

According to ET, Italia Ricci will make her debut as Silver Banshee in episode 14 of Supergirl. It seems the character will be introduced as a new CatCo employee, who starts out as a work nemesis for Kara but goes on to cause even bigger problems for her caped alter ego when she becomes the dangerous supervillian.

The comic book incarnation of Silver Banshee is almost as powerful as Supergirl, and has that sonic scream for added weakening effect - so it should be interesting to see the two clash.

"We are so excited to be working with Italia. We've been a fan of her work for years and we cannot wait to see her take on this iconic comic book role,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 p.m. PT/ET on CBS.

If I remember correctly, that story was written by Peter David.

Peter David had killer runs on both Supergirl and Aquaman.

He was really unappreciated in the 90's and he in my opinion is one of the greats

New 52 version would be cool; starting off as a friend and then becoming an enemy is something Kara hasn't had yet

Uh... hmm. I'm kind of torn on this.

On one hand, I am actually REALLY stoked that Silver Banshee is coming to Supergirl! She's one of the stronger female Superman rogues (who made the jump to being an equally effective Supergirl nemesis), and I felt like she would be a can't-miss addition to the T.V. show's rogues gallery.

But on the other hand... a CatCo employee? Again? Just like that LAST can't-miss villainess they transplanted from Superman's roster-- y'know, Livewire?

Silver Banshee is a unique character. She's either been played as a ghostly creature with no human identity, or as a cursed Irish girl who started out as Supergirl's friend. Either of those would have been more interesting approaches than to just make her a work rival for Kara who gets transformed into a supervillain.

I'm just hoping the show can manage to fashion her into an effective and meaningful foil for Supergirl-- WITHOUT imitating what they already did with Livewire. They're obviously starting from scratch with Banshee. Hopefully they can make her fit into their show better than they did with Red Tornado...

Not really...it will simply be another 'baddie' getting the best of Supergirl for a moment then having SG ultimately come out as the winner. I wish the writers would start giving Supergirl some more....badassness. She's getting punched around, stomped on and bitch slapped way to much....(I know she's just becoming familiar with her heroine persona...but she's not unfamiliar with her strengths).
