A number of characters are off limits to the DC TV shows due to Warner Bros. having plans for them on the big screen but with Superman sitting on the shelf for the time being, it seems as if Superman and his supporting cast are now being made readily available to The CW for Supergirl.
It's been confirmed today that Kara Danvers will finally come face to face with her cousin's greatest enemy, Lex Luthor. It's said that the role will be a recurring one and casting is expected to begin shortly. This news also lends a lot of weight to the rumour circulating that Superman is getting his own TV show, especially as Lois Lane is also being introduced in Supergirl this year.
"We’re beyond excited to introduce iconic villain, Lex Luthor, to Supergirl and to weave him into our story this season," say executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller. "We’ve talked about having Lex on the show since its inception and we’re excited to have him finally arrive. We can’t wait for him to shake things up in National City and watch him go toe to toe with not only Supergirl, but his sister Lena Luthor."
It's said that there are no plans for Lex to appear in the "Elseworlds" crossover event which makes sense considering the fact that's currently shooting in Vancouver. What we don't know is whether he escapes from prison or is released but we'll no doubt have more details in the coming weeks, especially once the role is filled.
