Read Four Pages From Vincenzo Natali's Aborted SWAMP THING Script

The Splice director was hired to write the script for a live-action Swamp Thing movie back in 2010 but obviously it never got off the ground. That's a real shame, because judging from the following pages Natali posted to his Twitter, we might have gotten something very special indeed...

There have already been a couple of live-action Swamp Thing movies, but although they're campy fun, they are most definitely not a good representation of the the layered, interesting DC character. There's been talk of Swamp Thing appearing in Guillermo del Toro's Dark Universe movie (don't hold your breath for that one), but short of that or another current DCCU outing it seems the best chance we had for decent take on the Earth Elemental came and went with the aborted 2010 project, which would have been produced by Joel Silver and written by Vincenzo Natali.

The latter has now posted the first four pages of his screenplay, and the direction the movie was going should be obvious to fans of Alan Moore's acclaimed run.

That's pretty much exactly how Moore begins his Saga of The Swamp Thing, so if the movie had of continued taking influence from that, we could have had a damn masterpiece on our hands. Hopefully if anyone else ever takes a crack at this they'll fully understand and appreciate the potential of the character, and not simply attempt to make a superhero monster movie.

Hopefully around 2020 WB will bring out Justice League Dark. Swamp Thing would be great on film. The last Swamp Thing film wasn't the greatest, but at least he so far has been on screen. Hopefully the next time around he gets shown in a better light.

Alan Moore's Swamp Thing and Neal Gaiman's Sandman runs are eerily similar and share multiple characters.

Swamp Thing was one of the first comic book movies I ever watched and the toys are also some of the first toys I ever played with. Think about it; if those movies had the CGI of today, they would have been INCREDIBLE! Please do it - I would if I had $50 mil to produce it. (unfortunately, I only have $30 (dollars))

This may sound stupid as far as comic tastes are concerned but speaking of DC heroes with Elemental power bases, I would be super stoked if we saw a live action version of the current New 52 Animalman. Swamp thing has always been a very layered and interesting character but since the launch of the New 52, Animalman has been re- envisioned to be much more than a throw away C-list comic character. If Del Torro won't finish his Hellboy Trilogy then he needs to step up and start some kind of work on Justice League Dark. There truly is no better man for the job when it comes to a Justice League Dark adaption. I'm just hoping that if this movie does see the light of day that it is incorporated and connected to the main DC Cinematic Universe.
