As a huge fan of DC Comics and the many TV shows and movies, it’s safe to say Warner Bros. and its team of writers have no love for the characters and what they represent. This is evident in the season finale of The Flash, “We Are The Flash.”
Let’s make no mistake here. Season 4 of The Flash, in most ways, was a complete letdown. Majority of the episodes were so bad one would think the writers just decided to save the best for last. Ironically, they saved their worst for last, and now this wonderful series is slowly transforming into something worthy of cancellation.
Lazy writing, lazy writing everywhere
Now, the majority of this episode focused on Cecile’s pregnancy and her going into labor. That was enough to turn this entire finale on its head, but then you realize why the writers chose to give Cecile temporary telekinesis powers.
Giving her powers because of a baby was one of the most idiotic decisions taken by The Flash writers in a long while, but then to find out this was done just to have a use for the character in the finale just touches me the wrong way.
When it came down to DeVoe and his plans to take over the world, he failed, as expected. However, it’s the manner of how he failed that helped this finale go downhill without any way to redeem itself.
Basically, he was defeated because Barry came up with an idea of how to free Ralph from his control by bringing him through a portal in DeVoe’s mind. I’m seriously smiling right now because it’s pretty dumb and anti-climatic.
This guy is the Thinker, a villain who is smarter than every member of Team Flash. Yet his defeat was like child’s play. Not to mention, his satellites and the corny countdown timer did nothing to have me wondering if he’d actually succeed.
At one point, he returned as a hologram in his chair, but then his wife, Marlize, broke the chair. She just walked passed him and broke it. One would think since his mind is now inside the chair, he could defend himself or easily warp out of there.
In all seriousness, we could be looking at the worst season finale in history, or at least, from the ones I’ve seen since my many years of watching season finales.
Thank the lord for Agents of Shield, arguably the most consistent comic book series today. When DC makes a mockery of itself on TV, just watch Agents of Shield to take away the bad taste.
Too bad we’ll have to wait until 2019 for a new season of that show.
