THE FLASH: Keiynan Lonsdale's Kid Flash Will Only Appear In Three Episodes Of Season 5

Heading into Season 5 of the The Flash, we learned Keiynan Lonsdale would only have a minor role in the story, but now we know that Wally West, a.k.a. Kid Flash, will appear in a total of three episodes.

A few months ago, it was revealed that, after joining the team in the middle of Season 3, Keiynan Lonsdale would not return as a series regular for Legends of Tomorrow Season 4, and we learned he wouldn't be a major player in The Flash's fifth season.

Still, despite these details, we didn't know just how small of a role Wally West, a.k.a. Kid Flash, would have in the upcoming season. But during an interview with Newsarama, showrunner Todd Helbing disclosed the number of episodes Lonsdale would appear in.

"You will see Wally in the first episode." Helbing confirmed. "He is in three episodes this season. We don’t have as much time with Kid Flash as I think everyone would like to see, but the story we have for him is really cool."

The reveal that the hero will only appear in three episodes will undoubtedly be disappointing for some, but if they didn't have any big story ideas for Wally, it's probably for the best that his presence was kept to a minimum.

Plus, between Jessica Parker Kennedy's Nora West-Allen, Ralph Dibney (Hartley Sawyer) and the rest of Team Flash, there's already plenty of supporting characters to explore when The Flash returns.

Good. He always felt like a superfluous character. One of the best things about last season was moving him to the other show with the other unimportant characters.

@TyrionLannister - The other show with the unimportant characters that has become better than the show with the important characters? I agree it was a great move as he was much better utilized there.

@CryinFist - I feel like Legends has become the AOS of the arrowverse.

Remember how it was the clear cut weak link when it started, but now is probably the most fun (in my opinion), or at least the most comic booky show?

@CryinFist - Guess most people don't agree with that as The Flash still has much better ratings.

They've always done poor work with Kid Flash in terms of writing IMHO, I wasn't a big fan of Lonsdale's portrayal either, I always felt uneven. He was fun to see on Legends, but a very dead end character.

Bring in Static or Jakeem Thunder to be his replacement. I also would enjoy seeing Bloodwynd too.

@BlackIceJoe - I hope they leave Static out of this tbh, give him his own show or bring him into Black Lightning later. I'd rather he be taken serious than risk making him a goofy character on Legends. Not saying Legends is a bad show but I'd rather they not take the grounded-ness of Statics character away from him.

@BlackIceJoe - Static needs to be on Black Lightning, and there is no need for a new character to replace Wally, we already have Nora and Ralph

@Snowbirdd - @BlackIceJoe - My guess is that, if Berlanti Co is allowed to use Static (because of the inconsistent rules that they've had to deal with over the years), that they would possibly set him up in Black Lightning, and then maybe use his introduction as a way to finally bridge that gap via crossover next year or something?

Like, I'm just thinking the best and biggest way to intro a character like that and then spinoff said character would be how they're doing Batwoman.

Thanks for the reminder. Would be cool if both he and Barry faced off against Cicada earlier before he leaves. It'd be interesting imo. I know we usually have to wait for the 6th or 7th eps to confront the villains but given he's again on short notice I would like something different this time.

Never enjoyed his Kid Flash, partly due to his acting and mostly due to the writing. Just a missed opportunity.

@Snowbirdd - IMO, it was mishandled, sadly, just like Black Canary.

They should bring in Michael Rosembaum to play white Wally West. I mean, it's even a storyline out of the comics right now...

Anyone thinking they might write him off permanently?

I think Wally has been superfluous partly because of how he’s been written and acted, partly because of the character dynamic of Barry and Wally from the comics, and largely because the Flash cast is already way too full with its team/ensemble nature (which I think also holds the Flash character and show back).
Snowbirdd
Snowbirdd - 8/14/2018, 6:13 PM
@DerekLake - I'm still waiting for them to do a show about a solo hero actually being solo. Black Lighting is the closest they've gotten but it's "Team Lightning" is necessary for the strong family dynamic they've built.

I'm thinking we'll finally see a solo hero with Batwoman.

They should recast Kid Flash for someone who really want to be part of the Arrowverse.
tugboy
tugboy - 8/15/2018, 8:12 AM
@cocaegelo - Exactly. I think that was the biggest part of it. Lonsdale originally wanted the role (obviously) but it seems that after a while he got disinterested in it, and the character suffered for it. It's best at this point to drop Wally West from the The Flash Show and introduce, if needed, another sidekick Speedster, this time with an actor/actress who wants to be there.
