THE FLASH Season 4 Adds SAVING THE HUMAN RACE Actor Hartley Sawyer As The Elongated Man

We'd heard there was a pretty good chance season 4 of The CW's The Flash would introduce Ralph Dibny, a.k.a. The Elongated Man, and now it's been confirmed that Hartley Sawyer has been cast in the role...

On the heels of a recent report that season 4 of The Flash would introduce The Elongated Man, EW has just confirmed that the super-stretchy hero will be played by Hartley Sawyer (Saving the Human Race, SPiN) as a new recurring character.

It seems this small-screen take on Ralph Dibny will be private investigator, with "skills that rival those of Batman. Upon discovering he has the power to stretch his body to any shape or form, Dibny uses his new abilities to help Team Flash solve one of Central City’s greatest mysteries."

Sawyer joins the previously announced Neil Sandilands as The Thinker, Kim Engelbrecht as The Mechanic, and Danny Trejo as Breacher.

The Flash returns to The CW for its fourth season on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. ET.

There's a dirty joke somewhere in this...

I don't care that much.

Don't recognize the actor. Elongated Man is cool, but man these DC shows have run their course.

Hopefully he won't be underused

@Robby - Like a certain perfectly-cast Jay Garrick has been...

Make John Wesley Shipp a series regular, dammit!

Serious question for DC fans: what's the difference between Elongated Man and Plastic Man? Or are they the same character?

@AvisQuinn - They're different, very different personalities and backstories. Elongated man is kind of your typical genius superhero and plastic man is a former crook that is usually used for comedic purposes

@AvisQuinn - And Plastic Man's powers far exceed that of the Elongated Man. Think Hulk vs Luke Cage but with stretchy people.

How on earth are they going to do this on a TV budget?

@Nightwing1015 - They did King Shark pretty well along with Grodd . Im sure this will turn out well . The

@Nightwing1015 - Like they did it with Grodd, King Shark, Savitar, Parasite, Tar Pit, etc.

And like they did it here.

@Nightwing1015 - they are going to use Beast Boy in Titans, if they can pull that off they can do anything

@dracula - that's not network tv so really not a fair comparison.

...and don't tell me. He gets his abilities from the Particle Accelerator also? I used to watch this show religiously and now its just "meh." Grant is skinny as hell and is always wining. He needs to grow some balls and other heroes need to get their abilities like they do in the funny books. Not with just a particle accelerator. The producers need to step it up a notch.

@hayawatha - He DOES get his powers that way. You do realize that all the way in season 1, Ralph Dibny was listed as one of the many victims. They also name dropped Fire's real life name, so here's hoping!

@hayawatha - Right. Ralph Dibny was mentioned in season 1 as one of the people missing after the particle accelerator explosion. Along with Bea Da Costa (Fire), Al Rothstein (Nuklon/ Atom Smasher), Will Everett (Amazing Man), and Grant Emerson (Damage). So he's gets his power from the particle beam explosion. It's nice to see them finally use him after mentioning him in season 1. Let's see if we get the other ones. Didn't we already get Atom Smasher in Season 2?
