TITANS Season Three Adds Another Robin To The Mix As THE BATMAN's Jay Lycurgo Joins The Cast As Tim Drake

With Dick Grayson becoming Nightwing and Jason Todd adopting the Red Hood identity, it's time for a new Robin to be inducted into the Bat-family as Jay Lycurgo has joined the cast as Tim Drake.

Multiple sources are reporting that up-and-comer Jay Lycurgo (I May Destroy You; Listen) has joined the cast of Titans season three in a recurring role as Tim Drake, a.k.a. the third Robin.

He's being described as "a streetwise kid who’s managed to grow up on the toughest streets without losing his indelible belief in heroism. His easy-going demeanor is backed up by a near-genius mind, a natural detective with a perception of detail far beyond his years. Fans of the “Batman” comics will recall that Drake served with Batman as the third Robin."

While Lycurgo doesn't have any major credits to his name just yet, the news of his Titans casting has also revealed that he will appear in a supporting role in Matt Reeves' The Batman, which will star Robert Pattinson (TenetThe Lighthouse) as the titular Dark Knight, next year. Further details are currently unavailable, but Variety isn't ruling out the possibility of him playing Drake in both projects, although that's an extreme longshot at best, so take it with a grain of salt.

With Barbara Gordon (Samantha Welch) and Scarecrow also expected to appear along with the formal debut of the Red Hood (Curran Walters), it seems as though the upcoming season will really double down on exploring the Bat-family side of things as Nightwing (Brenton Thwaites) reassesses the future of his team following the loss of Donna Troy (Conor Leslie).

Filming is currently underway on season three, and is expected to last until at least mid-June barring any further pandemic-related delays, which means the new season could premiere exclusively on HBO Max before the end of this calendar year.

@InfinitePunches - he’s basically said on Twitter he has no storyline this season and doesn’t even know if he’ll ever turn into another animal. Sucks for him right now

@MikeyL - It's kind of crazy how little they've done with his character lol he's actually a decent actor and there's a lot they can do with his character from a visual/action standpoint.

However, some of the tiger VFX have been pretty bad objectively. So maybe the producers are shying away from his character on purpose.

@MikeyL - The show is just too crowded. I say take Tim Drake and Connor Kent off the team and spin them off to Teen Titans or Young Justice.

The Titans should just be Dick, Kory, Donna, Gar, Rachel, Vic, and Wally. Granted, Wally was a part-timer, but bring Cyborg over from Doom Patrol and stick him with the Titans.

@Battabing - There is more to the Titans that just a repeat of the Wolfman-Perez stuff lol

@OmegaBlack13 -
It's the most popular, though.

@Battabing - Yeah of course, and it was largely good. It's just that it's an almost 40-year-old lineup that just leads to remixes of the Judas Contract and maybe Terror of Trigon. It's been mined before in the cartoon and whatever reunion book they do every few years. I like that the show is pulling from different eras.

I watched the first season and I kinda dig it. It tried a little too hard to be edgy but I enjoyed it. Does the show get better? I’ve thought about going back to it.

@MovieMonster - Second season improves in some ways, gets worst in others. They try to do too much some times and have too many characters

Tim Drake is my favorite Robin

I'd be fine with a black Tim Drake (although if they were looking specifically for a black actor, they could have used Duke Thomas/Signal)

This is way too soon, Jason has just ditched Batman and the team is already too big. Beast Boy has been on the show since season 1 and really id say he has had the least development of the entire cast.

@Pasto - they need to trim down the cast big time.

That's cool and all, but the bigger the cast gets the more unbalanced the episodes get in terms of quality with all the characters this show is juggling now. In S2 some characters were thrown completely to the wayside.

It'll rustle some jimmies for sure. The show is too Robin centric. If you want the Batfamily, just give us a Batfamily show, Batwing, The Signal, Stephanie Brown are all on the diversity spectrum and ripe for the picking if that's what they are going for.
