Summers span decades, winters can last a lifetime, and the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun. It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues; to the vast and savage eastern lands; all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond.Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men… all will play the ‘Game of Thrones.’

A new original series based on George R.R. Martin’s best-selling ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series.

The show was great last night. I've read all four books thus far and I can tell you that there is not other series like A Song of Ice and Fire. The show looks to be pretty spot-on in its translation to the screen.

I'm on the third book, part 2. Best stuff I have read in, well, ever! Seriously it's up there with anything from Cormac McCarthy who has always been one of my favorite writers.

Watching tonight, review to follow:)

@yossarian, yeah, I watched that first 15 minutes or whatever it was that was pre-released before the premier episode and decided I'd rather read the books. I may watch the show eventually after I've read the books.

@Ror- Is it stylistically like Cormac McCarthy? I can't read his stuff, always feel suicidal afterwards.

And this ties into CBM's How?

It ties in because there's a prequel comic to the novels called Hedge Knight.

Last nights show was spot on, can't wait for the stuff to come, I hear eps 4 & 5 are amazing! Frak the cynics who think they've seen it all before and have zero attention span, they haven't a clue what's to come and why these books have been heralded the best fantasy series since Lord of the Rings! Thank god they have reality TV shows to keep them busy.

Loved it, but as someone who read and loved the books, I know what's coming and am anticipating it. I remember how slow the first few chapters were as they introduced the characters.

After seeing Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo, I'm a little more pumped to his version of Conan.
