In June 2022, HBO started early development on a Jon Snow, Game of Thrones spin-off series which is thought to pick up where the series finale ended. In the final episode of the HBO fantasy series, Jon Snow, played by Kit Harrington, rejected the Iron Throne and was banished to dwell with The Wildlings on the other side of the Wall.
It will be interesting to see what HBO comes up with as the main antagonist for Jon Snow in the spin-off now that the threat posed by the White Walkers has been eliminated.
While promoting his new Dracula film, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, actor Liam Cunningham revealed to Den of Geek that he contacted Harrington to get some insider information about the show, and that if the price is right, he's not opposed to Sir Davos having a role.
“I did send [Kit] a text saying, ‘Better Call Davos,'” Cunningham stated. “I haven’t heard anything back. You probably know more than I do. I wish them the best to whoever’s involved in it, and if the check is big enough, I might even show up again!”
According to George R.R. Martin, it was Harrington who pitched the idea to HBO, though Martin indicated that he'll have some involvement with the show.
In addition to the Jon Snow spin-off, there are several other Game of Thrones sequels and prequels in development, including:
- 10,000 Ships- based on the warrior Princess Nymeria, who founded Dorne
- 9 Voyages aka Sea Snake - a House of the Dragon spinoff focusing on the voyages of Corlys Velaryon
- Dunk & Egg aka The Hedge Knight - a prequel series following a young hedge knight and a boy who is secretly a Targaryen prince
- The Golden Empire - an adult animated series set in Yi Ti, a land loosely based on Imperial China
Ser Davos, one of the few survivors of the Game of Thrones season 8, was promoted to Master of Ships in the series finale and tasked with rebuilding the Royal Fleet, so the former pirate smuggler turned royal is nicely positioned to appear in any number of spin-offs if Harrington never texts back!
