HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Spoilers: Sunday's Episode Included One Of The Show's Most Violent Death Scenes

Like Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon hasn't shied away from delivering hard-hitting, downright brutal character deaths. However, the latest did not make for easy viewing in any way, shape, or form.

House of the Dragon's sixth episode took us 10 years into the future, and a few steps closer to the war known as the Dance of the Dragons. King Viserys is, somehow, still alive, though poor Paddy Considine looks like he'd be a better fit for The Walking Dead than the world of Game of Thrones at this point!

However, it was elsewhere in this latest instalment that the prequel delivered one of its most horrifying and upsetting death scenes to date.

Lady Laena Valaryon, the dragon-riding wife of Prince Daemon Targaryen, is keen to return to her family in Driftmark after spending years in Pentos, but a happy ending simply isn't meant to be for her. When her childbirth goes wrong and Laena learns that the outcome will be fatal, she makes a decision that will have major ramifications for the show.

Rather than die giving birth, she runs out of the compound and to her dragon Vhagar. There, she screams "Dracarys" over and over until the dragon finally relents, burning her and her unborn child alive as Daemon watches on. Laena had said earlier that she wanted to die a dragon rider's death, and she gets the demise she hoped for.

It doesn't make for easy viewing, though, and her dragon now looks set to fall into Prince Aemond Targaryen's hands. That means Rhaenyra and Daemon will have to attempt to fend off Westeros' largest, most fearsome dragon during the Dance of the Dragons.

That will be no easy feat.

What did you think about House of the Dragons' latest, hard-hitting death scene? Are you excited for what comes next? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments section.

Lol dude gets his head blown up with a flail in episode one. Dude gets his face smashed in with a gauntlet fist in episode 5. This one was not violent. It was a mercy killing was it not…

I hope we can move past the shock value BS it's getting repetitive after so many times.
After GOT climaxed with gore and shock value there's nothing HOTD can do to eclipse that unless they kill a child and show all of it so why not focus on telling a better story and give us some cool battles instead of the continuous scheming of 2 sides lol.

Not gonna lie, episode 6 was fairly boring, even the one before that.
We are depraved from Daemon too much. He's the only cool character on the show for me, a real wildcard, mysterious. Everyone else is just predictable and we got too much focus on Viserys, Rhaenyra and Alicent already, i'm so bored of their plotlines.

@Typhoon20 - Seems like you might be watching the wrong show. This is what it is, so if you dont enjoy, stop watching. Meanwhile, the rest of us can keep enjoying. It has been fantastic in my opinion.

This show hasn't ceased to surprise me in the narrative dept. The writing has been spectacular and so consistent. The character work is impeccable! I think it's far better than Thrones Season 1 thus far. But I'm aware I may be in the minority on that one.

@McMurdo - I made a similar comment on an earlier article. I dont think you are in the minority, honestly. But as someone pointed out to me in my comment, GOT walked so HOTD could run. There is truth to that, but I still think the writing is stronger on this show.
