HBO has revealed that its new series (which totally wasn't created by Joss Whedon, honest) The Nevers will kick off on Sunday, April 11th with "Part One" of its first season. That will comprise of six episodes, with "Part Two" - also made up of six instalments - set to follow at a later date.
The show, which will also be available on HBO Max, is set in Victorian London. It's 1986, and the city is rocked to its foundations by a supernatural event which gives certain people - mostly women - abnormal abilities, from the wondrous to the disturbing. But no matter their particular "turns," all who belong to this new underclass are in grave danger. It falls to mysterious, quick-fisted widow Amalia True (Laura Donnelly) and brilliant young inventor Penance Adair (Ann Skelly) to protect and shelter these gifted "orphans." To do so, they will have to face the brutal forces determined to annihilate their kind.
Now, the reason we made a point of mentioning Whedon at the top of this post is because WarnerMedia has distanced itself from the filmmaker following the allegations levelled at him by Justice League star Ray Fisher. Being removed from this series appears to have been his "punishment" for whatever happened, and whereas the Avengers: Age of Ultron director's name would have once been plastered over a trailer like this, it's nowhere to be seen.
That was to be expected, of course, and given what we've heard about Whedon in recent months, it's for the best. As for this series, it looks like it good be pretty good, but it's hard to say for sure right now.
The Nevers "Part One" is executive produced by Joss Whedon, Bernadette Caulfield, Ilene S. Landress, Doug Petrie, Jane Espenson and Philippa Goslett. Daniel S. Kaminsky co-executive produces.
