When the Watchmen trailer debuted in July 2008, there was a lot of excitement for both comic book fans and movie-goers all over the world, but the one question that everyone seems to be wondering what that infectious song which sets the mood for the Watchmen trailer is.

The answer to that question is "The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning" by the Smashing Pumpkins. Before being the Watchmen trailer song, it was actually the official song to the 1998 fellow DC comics flick Batman and Robin. The Smashing Pumpkins, if you recall, were one of the biggest alternative-rock bands in the 90s, and continue to make music today.

There is actually another version of the Watchmen trailer song "The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning", it is called "The End Is the Beginning Is the End" which is a faster and more energized version of the same song (both for the Batman and Robin soundtrack).

Zack Snyder used the song in the trailer; however he does not wish to use it either in the soundtrack of the film or within the film itself. As a historical purist, Zack Snyder did not put the music in the film because the Watchmen is based in mid-1980s New York, but the Smashing Pumpkins weren't even formed until the late 1980s in Chicago.

But we can always remember "The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning" as the perfect choice for the Watchmen trailer's song.
