Over the years, several attempts have been made to find a home for an adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez’s Locke & Key, but to no avail. There was a pilot made for Fox that wasn’t picked up, as well as discussions about creating a trilogy of films based on the comic, all of which never came to fruition.
For a while, Audible’s audio drama, which starred Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), was arguably the most fruitful adaptation of the popular comic. However, when last year saw IT director Andy Muschietti sign on to direct a pilot for Hulu following the departure of Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange), fans of the comic series gained some newfound hope.
Unfortunately, the chances of seeing Hulu pick up the adaptation seems to have fallen through according to Samantha Mathis. “I did a pilot for Hulu called Locke & Key, but it didn’t get picked up by Hulu,” Mathis told Cultured Vultures, before providing some hope for fans. “It’s getting shopped around to Amazon and Netflix and Apple and everyone right now. Who knows, maybe that will end up some place." So, while far from a sure thing, fans are sure to be happy knowing that a provider such as Netflix or Amazon may finally pick up Locke & Key.
What do you folks thing about this? Do you hope Locke & Key eventually finds a home? Where do you think it may end up?
