AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Returns With Mediocre Ratings; Down 58% From Series Premiere

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returned last night, and while the majority of fans loved the episode, the ratings haven't improved since last season and this premiere is down a whopping 58% from when the series debuted in 2013. Hit the jump for details and all the latest numbers...

It won't be facing the axe anytime soon, but Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could still in some ways be considered a major disappointment for Marvel and ABC, especially after the buzz surrounding the series premiere last year. According to Deadline, it had a 4.6 fast national and 4.7 Live+same day rating in adults 18-49 in 2013, but returned last night with 1.9 fast national (down 59%), a number which will likely go up only a tenth or two in the finals. Despite the fact that the series is heavily DVR'd, this is still a drop of 58% since its record breaking debut. It appears as if those well-received Captain America: The Winter Soldier tie-in episodes came too litle, too late! However, it's worth noting that these current numbers are roughly on par with where it ended last season. As long as it can maintain these and doesn't drop any further, there's no reason why it won't stick around for the forseeable future! Curious about how Gotham did in comparison? Find out here!

The only problem with this show is it's a show about supporting characters.

They aren't bad they just aren't interesting enough for their own show.

How to fix this. Cancel Agents Of Shield make another show that has a main character (I'd adapt Spider-Woman) bring in all the cast from Agents of Shield to be supporting cast.

Fixed.

It was actually off to a much better start than last season. Kinda disappointed they built up Lawless' character's hype so much to just kill her in the first episode.

Let this show die already, when you're competing with other superhero shows that actually HAS superheroes in their show, it becomes rather difficult to stand out from the crop.

I thought it was remarkably better in the season premiere. Season 1 was one that I had to force myself to keep watching. It got better after Cap2 and I think it's even better now. If they continue to get better I just hope they're rewarded for it.

I watched the first 5 or so episodes and quit. I couldn't do it.. I heard it got alot better.. But that's alot of time to catch up on a show that is average/below average. & from the looks of the episodes I have watched....

Actually it would be hilarious if Arrow churns out 5 million viewers on premier night, but sad to say it will be around 3.6 million.

[frick] all the haters!! Last night's episode was badass!! I don't know what you people expect.. I mean Jesus Christ, the show is expanding the MCU even more and you're still bitching.. No matter they do, you'll never be pleased... We're all being spoiled by Marvel, it's time to be thankful..

I thought it was alot better than the majority of the last season, and hope it continues with this type of action and CB references.

And I gave season 1 alot of shit for being terrible up to there reliance on the Hydra reveal, so I'm giving this another chance.

Are we not going to talk about the Arrow Season 2 ratings drop compared to its series premier? Because in my opinion and others Season 2 of Arrow was the best Comic Book related television ever. So don't let a ratings drop dictate wether a show is good or not.

The show has very strong DVR ratings and is getting better every episode.
If it keeps these ratings I think it will have a season 3 for sure.

Pasto and Professor X are right though....Josh purposefully made sure Agents of SHIELD would have low ratings so he could write an article about it.

Josh is that powerful and clever.

Comic book TV shows are like the opening act to a headliner. Nobody really cares. Bring on the movies. That’s what I say. I care less about Agent Coulson and his ragtag band of misfits. Give me Age of Ultron or GTFO.
