EDITORIAL: Five Marvel Cinematic Universe Characters Who Should Appear In Agents Of SHIELD

The MCU is home to many characters some of which have appeared in Agents of SHIELD. Here is my list of characters who have starred in the movies but not yet appeared in the show. Don't worry, there is no Avenger in sight just lesser known characters who deserve a chance to grow.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a largely cohesive place with characters such as Maria Hill and lesser known characters like Agent Sitwell crossing from the big to small screen. Marvel has such a unique opportunity in Agents of SHIELD to continue the stories of many film characters that are unlikely to reappear. Here is my slightly obscure list of MCU characters that have yet to appear in Agents of SHIELD, that I believe would make an interesting episode in the shows second season.

5. Chirstine Everhart (Leslie Bibb) from Iron Man/ Iron Man 2
Christine Everhart is a little known Marvel character and her inclusion on my list is slightly odd. However, the character in the comics is a journalist for The Daily Bugle and with the recent deconstruction of SHIELD, it would be interesting to view the story from a journalistic perspective. In the Iron Man films, she appears as a Variety reporter but she could switch to current affairs prior to the episode. The hypothesised episode could feature Everhart trying to discover the truth behind SHIELDs collapse but she gets caught up in the action forcing the team to save her. In the grand scale of the MCU, SHIELD has a large black mark next to it and having a journalist report positively on the organisation could help to re-establish SHIELD.

4. Harley Keener (Ty Simmons) Iron Man 3
Another character from the Iron Man series but a personal favourite I would like to see appear. Harley Keener is an original character who helps Tony to rebuild his Iron Man suit in the third film. The kid was smart, witty and clever which made his performance stand out for me. He could appear in an Agents of SHIELD episode, inspired by his ordeal with Tony Stark he joins one of SHIELDs training academy programmes helping the team in a situation. It would be nice to see Keener appear and learn how he was influenced by Stark.

3. Frank Grillo (Brock Rumlow) Captain America: The Winter Soldier
A favourite from the Captain America sequel and undercover HYDRA operative who was seen surviving at the end of the film. Whilst his character will almost likely feature in the third Captain America as supervillain Crossbones, I would like to see the character appear in a flashback capacity. This episode could follow Coulson and May as they discover many agents, who were their friends and allies, were in fact HYRDA double agents. It would be good to see the cracks in the organisation early on without anyone noticing or suspecting the truth. It would be a good fan service to see Coulson or even May team up with Grillo in a series of flashbacks just to highlight the deception that lay dormant in SHIELD for so long.

2. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) Thor/ Thor: The Dark World Darcy, the trusty assistant to Jane Foster played comically by Kat Dennings would be a welcome addition to an Agents of SHIELD episode. I would love to see the on screen chemistry between Darcy and Skye and Simmons who all share a quirky personality trait. Darcy’s episode could feature a plot revolving around physics (Darcy’s background) that would require her, along with the team, to combat the dilemma. I would personally like to see Dennings reappear as I fear moving forward and as Thor heads cosmic, the character will be shown and developed less in future films.

1. Batroc the Leaper (Georges St Pierre) Captain America: The Winter Soldier Batroc, a French mercenary for higher, would make an excellent SHIELD episode. The character has a unique fighting style which came across well on screen although few members of the team (possibly May?) would stand a chance in a fight against him. The character villain for hire past means he could be shoe horned in many stories that would involve the team simply taking him down. The character could be linked to a recurring plot, with Batroc just being used as a pawn in a larger plan. Either way, I believe this is the character that should guest star most, especially with a fair comic book presence over the years.

Are there any other MCU characters that have yet to feature in Agents of SHIELD that you would like to see appear in the second season. I know my episode plans are rough, but these are just characters who unlike Maria Hill, will likely appear in the show or feature prominently in any movie. I can definitely see any of these being part of AoS. Great suggestions :)

I wouldn't mind seeing the hot reporter, or Grillo in a flashback or Batroc. I have no desire too see the kid. As for Darcy, her doctorate is actually in political science (as was stated in the first Thor.) She's only Jane's assistant because she was the only applicant. So I don't see how she would fit in well.

Id love to see these back :)
Leslie Bibb would be Interesting to return. She's not a significant character in the slightest but to would be cool for continuity to see her recur.

And of course I love Kat and she'd be pretty cool as a SHIELD scientist for the day. I can totally imagine her with FitzSimmons.

They may want to look at some research Jane did but she's unavailable so they get Darcy instead to help.

Harley shouldn't be there. Justin Hammer should be there.

How come Hammer is at normal prison? He aided in the destruction of part of New York and yet he's in a normal prison and not the Fridge?

I was going to include hammer but I thought the actor was to mainstream for AoS. Although maybe he has some sort of contract agreement !

I'm surprised Samuel Sterns isn't on here. General Ross would be a bit mindblowing as well.

Of the ones you mentioned though, Christine Everhart would probably be the one I'd be most interested in. Her absence, along with the lack of an AC/DC song, are actually my biggest gripes about Iron Man 3. Darcy would actually fit in with the show pretty well.

How about none of the above, how about they stop quaking in their boots about using characters. HOW ABOUT DISNEY HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF FAITH IN THE SHOW AND LET THEM USE BIG NAME CHARACTERS!

^ yeah, because marvel definitely have no faith in their properties...

Everhart, why not. Darcy, yeah... if used better than in Thor 2. All in all a bit tricky one, as are to various extents all the sidekick characters from the movies - their visits may just remind us of the absence of the actual big-name characters if not played and written very well and organically into the plot.

I don't see a working storyline for Harley, he's just a clever smalltown kid. I doubt there's much activity in the SHIELD training academies this season, and even if there were I don't think they recruit so young kids.

Not really from the movies, but I think it would be fun to see what ever happened to Benny and Claire from the Item 47 One-Shot. Considering they were somewhat shady characters recruited into the SHIELD only a few months before the whole thing went down, I think their reactions could be interesting. Did they go rogue again, start robbing banks with SHIELD tech? Or are they comfortably in HYDRA now? They were recruited by Agent Sitwell after all.

I could definitely See GSP showing up because I have a strong theory that Ward will be a mercenary in the next season which would be cool to introduce Tasmaster and O'Grady likely with the fall of shield they would become mercenaries with Baltroc the Pirate/Mercenary.

Yes too Batroc, Harley Kenner & Crossbones.

I'm sick of Darcy. If she where to be featured in an episode she should be killed off.

I'm all for Batroc the Leaper and Darcy Lewis.
Batroc knew how to give a fight in cap 2 and he seems like a pretty competent villain. As for Darcy...
I think she would do a fantastic guest for the show but only if her character gets promoted from being a comic relief. Kat Dennings is a fine actress (who is being wasted in that show of cbs) and Since there's nothing said or confirmed about her background..there are no limits for her character. They could use that as a wow factor!
