Daredevil: Born Again, in its current iteration, has been scrapped by Marvel Studios. The entire creative team was fired and only a few scenes from those shot are expected to make it into whatever comes next.
We recently learned that [SPOILER ALERT], following the death of Foggy Nelson in the premiere, Matt Murdock would have given up being Daredevil and not suited up again until roughly halfway through the 9-episode first season. More legal procedural than a superhero series, this take on Daredevil: Born Again has been described as boring and, we kid you not, sleep-inducing.
Earlier this month, we heard that "The Trial of White Tiger" would be the show's first big arc, with Matt taking on the vigilante as a client after he stopped a mugging. In reality, the muggers were corrupt cops and, when one accidentally died during the scuffle, White Tiger is deemed a "cop killer."
Now, we have additional intel, revealing "Matt would've tailed the surviving cop to find the 'informant' as a witness for Hector's trial. After finding the informant first, Matt would take their place to save them."
"The corrupt cops are surprised to find Matt waiting for them. But they don't care that he's the informant’' lawyer and start to beat him up...until a gun is pulled and the devil is unleashed. Matt would then notice the Punisher logo tattooed on one of the knocked-out cops, setting up the next arc."
This lines up with reports that the Man Without Fear was set to track Frank Castle down after encountering corrupt cops inspired by his unique brand of lethal justice. We doubt The Punisher approved but, between this and Wilson Fisk running for New York City Mayor on the promise he'd stamp out vigilantes, the idea was clearly for Daredevil: Born Again to explore the place of street-level heroes in the MCU.
Again, we don't know how much of this will make it into the next take on the series but it's possible the story will remain largely the same with what sounds like some much-needed added action.
Daredevil: Born Again doesn't currently have a premiere date.
