DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Adds Buck Cashman/Bullet And...A Gender-Swapped Ben Urich?!

Daredevil: Born Again appears to have made a number of casting additions as a U.S. Copyright Office listing reveals plans for Bullet and a character some fans believe could be a gender-swapped Ben Urich.

Daredevil: Born Again remains perhaps the most highly anticipated MCU TV series. Unfortunately, all signs point to it heading our way a little later than we'd have liked.

As of now, it seems the show won't premiere until early 2025. We'd expected it to drop in 2024, but the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes brought an end to that notion as shooting was halted several months ago. While writers have since returned to work, actors remain on the picket lines, leaving 'ol Hornhead in limbo.

Marvel Studios recently filed a number of trademarks with the U.S. Copyright Office and, with that, comes a confirmed cast list.

That includes Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, Sandrine Holt as Vanessa Fisk, Nikki M James as Kirsten McDuffie, Clark Johnson as Cherry, and Zabryna Guevara as Sheila Rivera.

Where things get really interesting, though, is with the news that Arty Froushan is set to portray Buck Cashman. In the comics, he was an agent of the United States government who performed covert activities and had the highest level of security clearance an agent of his status could hold. He fell under The Kingpin's influence and, as a result, ended up squaring off against the Man Without Fear.

Even more intriguing is the revelation that Genneya Walton will play a character named BB Urich. Reporter Ben Urich was murdered by Wilson Fisk in Netflix's Daredevil and, while we'd assume this is his daughter or granddaughter (despite her never being mentioned), there's a chance the reporter has been gender-swapped, though one scooper - see below - says otherwise.

Daredevil: Born Again will only be a loose sequel to its small screen predecessor, so it will be worth keeping an eye on how Marvel Studios handles this.

Our next revelation comes with the news Michael Gandolfini has been cast as Daniel Blade. We can't find anyone in the comics with that name and have a sneaky suspicion it's a moniker being used to disguise who he's really playing.

Finally, a brief synopsis reveals the series will see, "rivals Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) try to leave behind their darker alter-egos to serve the people of New York only to have their pasts catch up to them. In the first episode of the series we are reintroduced to the world of Daredevil."

We're not expecting any official Daredevil: Born Again updates to head our way until well into next year, but until then, you can let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Didn't mind Foggy and wouldn't mind seeing the same dude return but I'm glad that so far there's no sign of Karen. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

This show is a reboot. This has no ties to Netflix DD.

@Order66 - I mean it clearly has ties. They kept the two main actors and even used that shows theme song when he appeared in She-Hulk

@Order66 - If it's not, the article suggests it could be a relative.

It could be a gender swapped Ben but I think it’s more likely Genneya Walton is playing his daughter or granddaughter.

Anyway , still looking forward to this

Yes, this 24-year old actress has either been cast as the granddaughter of a man in his 60s who was killed off in the last season, or as a "Gender Swapped" version of the same character, somehow alive again and 40 years younger. Definitely one of those.

@ClintThaHamster - He died in season 1.

If this show isn't continuing from a Netflix type of continuity, the second option may be the case, obviously minus the alive again aspect. But if that's the case I see no reason why they'd cast her so young and not cast a cool older black actress (unless Disney wants to hit it with the hip young influencer crowd, ugh).

@dagenspear - They're not recasting Urich (who let's just agree died at some point, but probably when you said, since I haven't rewatched DD since it aired, and I was probably drinking). They're clearly casting this new actress as a daughter or granddaughter or niece or something to provide connective tissue to the role Ben played in Matt's life.

@ClintThaHamster - That's what I meant when brought up the idea of if the show isn't continuing from the Netflix continuity. My personal preference for this is that this is in the same continuity as the Netflix show and this Urich's relative of some sort, daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter, whatever. If it's not continuing from that, I don't see why, if they'd gender swap, they'd not cast an older black woman instead of this.

@dagenspear - I get that. I just don't know why one would say "if they weren't doing what they are doing, I wish they'd have done it differently."

People are going to be very upset when they learn that MEN are the bad guy again #notallmen

@KaptainKhaos - They really should have made the Kingpin a woman, tbh.

@ClintThaHamster - absolutely!, it's completely unacceptable and WOKE that MEN are the bad guys, it's an attack on our masculinity I tell you

@KaptainKhaos - Even though men were almost always the bad guys before.

@ClintThaHamster - As far as recorded, because we all know about the laughable sexist perception of women not being seen as capable of those things at one time. Nowadays, we can all understand that women can be monsters too. That's equality.

Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 10/7/2023, 6:57 AM
@dagenspear - it's equality, but it's not reality. The point of equity in casting is to better reflect reality, not to further distort it. But, yeah, I'd love to see more women in bad ass villain roles.
dagenspear
dagenspear - 10/7/2023, 12:45 PM
@ClintThaHamster - A reflection of reality is that men and women can both be evil, but not all women are, nor are all men, all by themselves. LORD willing, it's down to the developers of the fictional work who they want to reflect the sinfulness present in either sex.

I can Michael Gandolfini being Butch Pharris who was the Kingpin’s illegimate son in the comics and I think was introduced in the recent Mayor run which we know this is taking inspiration from….

Maybe Matt uncovers this and tries to use it to ruin Fisk’s campaign while Fisk tries to cover it up.
