DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Star Vincent D'Onofrio Appears To Cast Doubt On Overhaul Report

Vincent D'Onofrio, who will return as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in Daredevil: Born Again, has responded to today's report that the Disney+ series is being completely overhauled...

Earlier today, THR published a piece claiming that Marvel Studios is planning a massive overhaul of the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again Disney+ series, but one of the show's cast members now appears to have cast doubt on the report.

According to the trade, Marvel execs reviewed some footage from the show while production was paused during the strikes, and decided that a "significant creative reboot" was in order. Head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman, along with directors for the remaining episodes, were let go, and Kevin Feige is said to have signed-off on a pretty major course-change.

A fan decided to use this opportunity to dig up one of Vincent D'Onofrio's (Wilson Fisk) old Tweets expressing his excitement at being a part of the project, and the actor responded. While he doesn't outright deny anything in THR's report, he does seemingly call at least some of the details into question.

Check out D'Onofrio's response for yourselves below, and let us know what you think.

There's a chance D'Onofrio is simply downplaying things here, or course, but it will be interesting to see if anyone else involved with bringing Born Again to the screen weighs in.

The show will be (or was going to be, anyway) loosely based on the '80s Marvel Comics series of the same name by Frank Miller and David Mazzuchelli, but is not expected to be an overly faithful adaptation. Despite some significant changes to the story, "Daredevil versus Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin, remains the focal point."

Born Again will be PG-13, but Marc Jobst, who helmed some key episodes of the Netflix show, simply doesn't believe Cox, D'Onofrio and Bernthal would have agreed to return if they didn't think it was going to work.

"So I’ve got no idea what they’re doing and how they’re approaching the Disney version of those worlds," he said in a recent interview. "I can’t imagine that Charlie, Vince and Jon would sign up for something that they felt was anodyne. They just wouldn’t do it. So in some form or another, Disney must have persuaded them to say, 'This is a journey worth coming on.'"

Looking for the part where he casts doubt on the report? He basically corroborates the story saying it's actually just business as usual.

@foreverintheway - Him suggesting it's just business as usual is casting doubt on THR's report, which claimed that the show had been pretty much completely overhauled/rebooted, which is absolutely not business as usual.

@MarkCassidy - I think he's implying he is a professional, and despite the overhaul, it's business as usual due to his professional outlook

@MarkCassidy - yeah I see his comments as damage control for the stooges lol

@foreverintheway - His first tweet begins literally with "Unless you really know what's going there's a chance you could be wrong about this statement."

He's not confirming one way or the other, but he is throwing out the possibility of inaccuracies which the writer also states, they are going of second hand information.

@bobevanz - It's not at all damage control. He's absolutely right. This is how filmmaking has always functioned. "Journalists" just like to sensationalize what they can for clicks and attention.

@Variant - Sure changes happen at every point in the production process of every movie and show. He's definitely not making that up. Actor's lines get changed on the fly, scripts get updated, maybe a scene isn't working the way the director pictured it so he decides to take a different approach to it. Hell, if changes did t happen at all points then reshootz would never be needed, yet they happen quite often.

But what doesn't happen frequently, are changes so big that they completely scrap all the work that has been done, all the scenes they've filmed, fire the director and writers, and restart from scratch. That rarely happens.

So, if we're to believe this rumor, then the actors of the show would definitely know what was happening, and it does sound like he's doing damage control without admitting the rumor is true. In his reply he is basically telling this person to have faith in the change. However big the changes may be.

I don't think he's doing anything wrong by any means. But I don't think he's being 100% honest with what is happening. Assuming of course this rumor is even true. It may not be true at all lol. But the fact that he is replying to someone about all these huge changes makes me believe he knows exactly what the original commenter was referencing.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. As of right now it's just a rumor.

It was too much like the Netflix series. They needed to add more jokes.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - And make Daredevil a secondary character. Ooh don't forget a marketable, cute CGI character, yeah, yeah that's the ticket!

Sounds less like casting doubt and more like confirmation, but just in a very mannered and professional way, as we've come to expect from D'Onforio. I'm all for the overhaul, even tho it means delays, it sounds like they're gonna have a pop at doing good TV, which would be a nice departure (not you Loki)

These two points right here, this is rule one and two for the TV format! Holy crap...
• Shows will now have proper showrunners that write pilots & show bibles.

• A focus on multiseason serialized TV rather than limited series.
No shit Sherlock!

Just don’t try to duct tape a show together like She-Hulk and Secret Invasion.

That’s a classy response no doubt…

He is right that every project evolves and changes during the course of pre-production , production and post for better or worse so this is par for the course to an extent.

What was the bigger story imo was Marvel making a new plan to develop their shows rather then just chugging out content to fill up D+ like Chapek wanted them to do whilst also dealing with the last few years which have been tumultuous aswell.

The latter method has led to mixed opinions on the shows to say the least so i hope this new direction provides more positive results for all!!.

It just sounds like he’s doing the typical Hollywood thing and defending those he has worked with. This doesn’t confirm or deny anything.

Yeah, this is confirmation of what's happened. Also, he does not have much of a say in things turning out alright or not 'settling for less' considering he did Hawkeye, lol.

D'Onofrio is to Kingpin what Ledger is to Joker.
