DAREDEVIL: Eiza Gonzalez Responds To Negativity She's Received Since Elektra "Rumor" Did The Rounds

Another bogus rumor has been addressed, with Bloodshot and Baby Driver actress Eiza Gonzalez taking to Twitter to make it very clear that she hasn't been cast as Elektra in Daredevil: Born Again...

Thanks to legions of so-called "scoopers," the internet is a minefield of misinformation. While some legit insiders obviously do have access to accurate info on upcoming projects, a lot of people - and websites - either don't know (or don't care about) the difference, and even the most blatant bull*shit can often spread under the guise of a rumor.

One of the biggest culprits is the Marvel Updates (@marvel_updat3s) Twitter account, which has (somehow) managed to amass over 60,000 followers. Earlier this year, they Tweeted that Bloodshot and Baby Driver actress Eiza Gonzalez had been cast as Elektra in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again Disney+ series.

It was a load of nonsense, of course, but the "rumor" was still picked up by several sites, and Gonzalez has now responded.

It seems Gonzalez has been getting some "hate" from fans, possibly due to many of them being under the false impression that she's set to take over from Élodie Yung, who played the assassin in the now defunct Daredevil Netflix show.

Gonzalez hasn't let the negativity deter her from playing a superhero, however, adding: "Hopefully I’ll get to play a cool superhero at one point of my career and it will be tons of fun and I’d be honored to be even considered. Meanwhile, I’ll be watching Daredevil and sending that cast all the love."

As things stand, we've had zero indication that Elektra will even be part of Born Again, but if the character does ever make her MCU debut, there's a decent chance Yung will be in line to reprise the role.

Wtf is wrong with people? If they cast her in the role, she didn't steal it, and to go on Twitter and send her hate messages over an unconfirmed rumor? Dumbasses! Dumbassess everywhere.

@MyCoolYoung - It's time to start putting online abusers in prison. It's gone beyond free speech, because it deprives the victims of their right to liberty and their own freedom.

@AwesomePromoz - That's a bit much. More like, it's time to start telling people to shut off their screen and go outside.

@IronSpider101 - No, harassment is a crime. I'm sure lots of people were told to go outside before they became mass murderers or serial killers. Society frequently gaslights us into believing we deserve to tolerate being abused, all the while abusers get away scott-free, and some even become President. We need to be alert to trends.

@AwesomePromoz - I'm not sure that could happen. I believe people would riot, but I do agree something needs to be done. People feel too comfortable hiding behind a keyboard saying whatever

@AwesomePromoz - The only problem I see with that is when you aren't allowed to disagree with someone or argue against their point because they feel "harassed". That comes under people feeling free to express their point of view but wanting to try to shut down anything to the contrary.

@AwesomePromoz - Online harrassment can be avoided or ignored though. If it becomes a legitimate threat, which is much easier to discern, actionable steps could be made against the individual in question. But otherwise it's a loose definition of what qualifies and there's no amount of man-power capable of policing something so ridiculous because the internet is vast, worldwide, with many people operating under many different jurisdictions. There's no lawful way to enact that, control it. And even if it could be done, as @rkshuttleworth pointed out, there are ways that could be abused.

But you know what you can do? Close the computer and walk away. Problem solved.

Don't get why anyone would take that casting badly, she's awesome. And if you have enough time to harass an actor on social media over being cast on any project, you should seek help.

@jarcastanon - that true mostly it’s fan casting people are doing this height , she don’t look like her , ethnicity, mostly comes down to what I have read over years

@dragon316 - I don't get it, if anything, Elodie Yung was the one who didn't look like Elektra. Elektra is GREEK, and yes we know a Greek can look like anybody, but in the comics she's Greek and looks it, not East Asian. There are not that many Greek characters in Marvel. Greeks usually look Mediterranean, which most Mediterranean people are mixed with North African so many DO tend to look typical Mestizo "Hispanic".

In fact Eiza Gonzalez would look way more like Elektra than both Elodie Yung AND Jennifer Garner.

This is what I hate about fandoms. It starts all nice and then the more popular it gets the the more toxic fans it attracts

Off topic for here, BUT! one of the most hilariously hypocritical things in this article is the fact that they used the phrase"semi-literate Twitter account"..... Which is a bit rich, considering the amount of spelling mistakes and non-sensical sentences that get posted in nearly every article published on this site.

If article writers on this site are going to criticise other people for being semi-literate, maybe start proof reading articles for mistakes before posting them here, because it's obvious that doesn't happen at the minute. Utter hypocrites.

Did anyone consider the fact that that twitter account might be run by someone whose first language IS NOT English? Again, hypocrisy, as I know for a fact Josh IS English, and he's the worst offender for illiteracy and poor sentence structure on this site.

Take a look in the mirror before criticising other people RorMachine ;-)

@DrSmoonk - I'm not even gonna respond to the hypocrisy thing, but I take your point about the semi-literate remark... that was mean, so I edited it out. It's just really frustrating to see that account and others like it spew utter rubbish day after day, and so many sites help it spread.
