The Falcon and The Winter Soldier have confirmed that Wyatt Russell's John Walker becomes the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Captain America, but it's widely believed that it will be The Falcon who ultimately wields the shied. Now, Anthony Mackie has opened up on that during a recent appearance on
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
"It is monumental man. I mean... to have Marvel select a young black man in America to represent the moniker of Captain America is is unprecedented. There's nothing that can compare to that. There's - it... it moves me not only that my kids get to see a black man as Captain America, but all of their friends white, black, Latino, and Asia can see a black man as Captain America."
As for Sam Wilson's transformation into Captain America, he added: "The shield is in good hands."
While a lot of comic book fans would have enjoyed seeing Bucky become the new Captain America (which is originally what happened in the source material), it's definitely historic for a black man to take over the mantle, and Mackie certainly seems like the right man for the job.
