CBM's Sunday Showdown pits two heroes (or villains) against each other to let you, our loyal readers, decide which of them deserves to be crowned the better comic book character.
Clint Barton first appeared as a villain in the pages of 1964's Tales of Suspense #57 by Stan Lee and Don Heck. He didn't even make the cover, but was a compelling character from the very start, especially as he was clearly a reluctant baddie. After taking on Iron Man alongside Black Widow, he was unexpectedly recruited by Captain America when he reformed The Avengers in issue #16.
He's become a pivotal character in the years that have followed, frequently at the side of Earth's Mightiest Heroes during their most dangerous adventures. Hawkeye has died and been resurrected, but what really makes Clint unique is the fact he's mostly deaf and wears hearing aids when heading into battle. In the Old Man Logan storyline, he even lost his sight, but was still every bit the hero!
On the big screen, Jeremy Renner has played the character since 2011's Thor. A major part of the Avengers franchise, Hawkeye is now getting his own TV series (which will introduce his predecessor).
Making his debut in More Fun Comics #73 in November 1941 (like Hawkeye, he didn't make the cover), Oliver Queen is a wealthy businessman and the owner of Queen Industries in Star City. Using his celebrity status to hide his vigilante activities, Green Arrow is perhaps best know for his huge array of trick arrows, and those make him an undeniably formidable opponent.
Denny O'Neil's work on the character - which saw him paired with Green Lantern - was groundbreaking at the time, and a game-changer for the comic book industry. Green Arrow has fought alongside the Justice League over the years, but in recent years, they haven't shown much interest in allowing him join their ranks. Still, who cares when his comics so often tackle such hard-hitting subjects?
In live-action, Oliver Queen has yet to make his way to the big screen, but was once a huge part of Smallville thanks to Justin Hartley. Stephen Amell is best known for playing him in Arrow, though.
There's no denying that Hawkeye and Green Arrow are two of the world's all-time greatest superheroes, but we now want you to decide which of these archers is better! You can do that by casting your vote in the poll below, while we'd love to also hear your thoughts on them below.
