Following today's announcement that several established Marvel Comics characters will be joining Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) in the Disney+ Hawkeye series, some new set footage gives us a first glimpse of Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, aka Echo.

The video doesn't reveal much (Cox's face is covered with a mask so it's difficult to tell if she has the character's signature white hand-print), but we do see the up-and-coming actress practicing sign language with another actor between takes.

You can check out another vid and a photo over at Murphy's Multiverse.

Like her character, Cox is deaf and Native American. Though this will be her first major role, Echo is expected to be a major part of the show. No details about how she'll factor into the plot have been revealed, but there's a chance she may start out as an adversary of Clint Barton's given their shared association with the Ronin mantle in the comics.

Created by David Mack and Joe Quesada in the late '90s, Echo was first introduced as a Daredevil villain before switching allegiances and reinventing herself as a hero. She resurfaced in 2005 and took up the mantle of Ronin for Brian Michael Bendis' New Avengers run, before going on to befriend and work alongside the likes of Wolverine and Moon Knight.

Hawkeye will also feature Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, and Zahn McClarnon. It's been confirmed that Florence Pugh will return as her Black Widow character, Yelena Belova.

Would it hurt to record in 1080p? Or even 4K for that matter? Unless it originally was, but Charles Murphy downsampled it to 240p, and then uploaded.

She seems a bit young so maybe we will see her origin. A definite new take as Kingpin and DD are nowhere around obviously.

Interesting that they would use her considering she had the same exact power as Taskmaster. Its not exactly a generic power that a lot of characters have, like flight, or enhanced strength. Being able to copy people's movements just by watching them is really only used by her and Taskmaster in the comics.

So I'm a bit surprised they would introduce two characters with that same, unique power so close to each other, if at all.

I'm betting she won't have that ability in the show.

@CorndogBurglar - I'm thinking she will serve as some type of deaf mentor for Clint once he losez his hearing. And I wouldn't be surprised if she's really good with a bow. But I doubt she'll have the abilities to mimic anything like she does in the comics, or like Taskmaster.

@CorndogBurglar - That'd be a smart adaptation that would fit well with the story arc IMO.

How can she be on set if she was just cast today?*joke*

Hawkeye news been giving everybody the Dose of MCU we needed. Now we need like a terrible Sony announcement and everything will feel back to normal.

I’m thinking an uncle Ben solo but I can be persuaded to Betty
