Vincent D'Onofrio made his long-awaited return as Kingpin in the penultimate episode of Hawkeye before taking centre stage in the season finale. However, Wilson Fisk's story seemingly reached an abrupt end when he was gunned down by Maya Lopez after she learned he was responsible for her father's murder.
In the comic books, Fisk survived that gunshot, losing his sight for a time before setting out to take revenge on both Echo and Daredevil. The former is getting her own Disney+ series, and it sounds like D'Onofrio is excited to possibly explore the fallout of Kingpin's clash with Maya.
"I think it would be great. I remember the comic run," he tells Collider. "It was one of my favorites, the father-daughter relationship between Maya and him, and I would love the opportunity to do that."
The site then outright asked D'Onofrio if Marvel Studios told him about future plans for Kingpin when he was enlisted to star in Hawkeye, and as you might expect, he was giving nothing away. "I can comment personally. I can't comment about any fact because they just don't tell me," he admitted. "So, it made me hope that it would continue and it still makes me feel that way."
"I mean in my mind, she definitely shot him. And, I walked away from Daredevil, at first I thought, 'Maybe he'll come back somehow.' And then very quickly after that, I thought I was walking away for good. So I had always hoped because of the fans wanting him back and everybody, I'd hope that I would come back. So I feel the same way now."
There's already been something of an outcry from fans, who clearly want more of this Kingpin in the MCU, so something tells us the villain will have a role to play in Echo. After all, Charlie Cox has officially returned as Matt Murdock, and Daredevil being reunited with his greatest foe is a must, especially if the Man Without Fear crosses paths with Maya.
