Marvel Studios finally brought The Kingpin into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with today's episode of Hawkeye, and those of you hoping for a comic accurate take on the villain were unlikely to be disappointed. After scenes with Eleanor Bishop, Kazi, and Maya Lopez, Wilson Fisk made his presence felt during the final act for a battle with Kate Bishop.
Clearly a little larger than how he was portrayed in Daredevil, this Kingpin was every bit as strong as his comic book counterpart, tearing a door off a car with ease, shaking off being shot with an arrow, hit by a car, and even blown up! His battle with Kate was excellent, though Fisk managed to escape before the authorities could make him answer for what happened at Rockefeller Center.
Much to his relief, Maya - who he'd ordered Kazi to kill - showed up to seemingly take him to safety. However, she knows he set her father up to die at the hands of Ronin and takes revenge by appearing to shoot The Kingpin in the head. The camera pans up before we can see too much, though the flash/sound of the gunshot and what sounds like him falling to the floor were hard to miss.
Has Marvel Studios already killed off the Kingpin of Crime, one week after his MCU debut?
If so, they might want to prepare for "Trevor" in Iron Man 3 levels of backlash. However, the comic books may provide some clues. When Maya discovered that Fisk had killed her father, she shot him in the face and blinded the villain. He lost his criminal empire and fled to Europe alone and broken before receiving an eye transplant. When he returned, The Kingpin set his sights on both Daredevil and Maya, so perhaps this is the direction Echo will take the story in?
Unfortunately, we'll have to wait and see for now. Aside from this moment of ambiguity/potential disappointment, the Hawkeye finale definitely delivered a satisfying conclusion to this Christmas caper.
