JESSICA JONES: David Tennant Confirms That He Won't Reprise The Role Of Kilgrave For Season 3

Despite recent rumors to the contrary, David Tennant has now confirmed that his fan-favorite villain Kilgrave will not make an appearance in the upcoming third season of Marvel and Netflix's Jessica Jones.

Despite a Tweet from Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg leading to speculation that the third and final season of the Marvel/Netflix show would see the return of the villainous Kilgrave, David Tennant himself has now confirmed that he will not be reprising the role.

The actor revealed that we wouldn't be seeing the mind-manipulating baddie again while promoting his new show Good Omens at South by Southwest, while also commenting on the show's recent cancellation.

“I don’t really regard it as a cancellation so much as something having the life that it should have,” said Tennant. “Three seasons of that story is great. Rather than thinking of it as something that was canceled, I think of it as something that had three seasons that will live in the memory.”

Kilgrave was actually killed off in the season 1 finale of Jessica Jones, but did return in season 2 as one of the hard-drinking PI's delusions - although Jones appeared to have exorcised that particular demon by the end of S2 so, really, another comeback wouldn't have made much sense anyway.

Tell us, are you disappointed to learn that Tennant won't be back as Kilgrave? Drop us a comment down below.

So Rosenberg was lying to us again. Gotcha.

Also kind of funny how he essentially views Jessica Jones as having run its course after 3 seasons (regardless of the fact it was canceled).

I just now caught myself being genuinely surprised by the fact that JJ S3 is of course actually still coming. Damn, Marvel/Netflix as a thing just feels so very much over.

@Kyos - I feel the same way. I'll be honest, even though JJ s3 is still coming, I view The Punisher S2 as the end of Marvel/Netflix.

@HeavyMetal4Life - give it a chance. I didn’t love Season 2 of JJ, but i did love season 1, maybe 3 will be great? Season 3 of Daredevil knocked it out of the park for me

@Subtlespammer24 - unless the season gets rave reviews online from critics and fans alike, I won't be tuning in. Season 2 was one of the worst seasons of any show I've ever watched and I won't be putting myself through that again. And with regards to Daredevil, it had one great season after another so there was never any reason to be suspicious.

@HeavyMetal4Life - in my opinion Daredevil season 2 missed the mark, but seasons 1 and 3 were good

still seems so odd kind of, how the timing of this has all went. By the time even Daredevil got chopped, we all knew what was coming, but still. Has there ever been a show where the news that it got cancelled became 100% official THIS FAR out of release date. sure we've had plenty of shows that knew they were ending as the last season debuted, but cause the writers designed it that way. not quite the same.

He was a great part of that first season. He will be missed.

Maybe he can play someone in the future MCU...?

@L0RDbuckethead - has james gunn done any offical casting for Twoicide Squad yet?

@TheCoonII - I don't believe they've announced any castings for the film yet, but there were some rumors Gunn is said to be taking his cues from the Jon Ostrander/Kim Yale comic run on from the '80s, which would make somewhat sense, since they're trying to get a guy like (and as old as) Idris Elba for Floyd Lawton. I haven't read that particular comic run, though.

The rumored SS lineup Gunn/the studio want is:

Harley Quinn
Deadshot
King Shark
Polka-dot Man
Peacemaker
Ratcatcher

Most of those are Batman villains (technically) as well, so i'm more inclined to believe that rumored list. These guys in particular sound 'James Gunn' as f*ck though, if you know what I mean.

Unless the first few episodes make a dramatic improvement over season 2, I'm not even going to bother.

I hope they #savedaredevil, but the rest of the shows can stay gone (in their current forms).

I would have loved for the serum he took to have regenerated him but having made him proper purple and given us the comic-accurate "Purple Man". Alas, I suppose we'll never get it. Too bad, he was definitely one of the best live action Marvel villains to date!

I thought this would drop on International Women's day like last year. Any guess when Netflix will release it? Do they even plan to promote it at all?
